Birthday Brunch Blessings with Sandy and I
Hello, everyone! Sandy and I had a lovely time the other night at the fantastic Rue 57, as we were there to celebrate our beloved Irwin’s 81st birthday. With 20 people in attendance, we enjoyed fantastic food and sparkling conversation amongst our loved ones. What’s more, our sister-in-law, Susan, decorated our area with charming flower plants with hearts.
To say that this was an enchanting occasion is an understatement! Needless to say, we were honored to be a part of a wonderful occasion that celebrated the life of one of the nearest and dearest people in our lives. After all, I consider it a blessing to be able to grow older and wiser with the people that we love.
This celebration inspired Sandy and I to take a vacation to see another dear friend of ours, Lucille, in Mexico City. Though we’ve since left on Friday, we can’t wait to share the exciting stories that we’ll be sure to have when we return. Until then, have a wonderful Chinese New Year and a happy Valentine ’s Day!
Miso-glazed sea bass
When Lauren and I were still in college, we took a trip to New York and went to dinner at Rue 57 (57th and 6th Ave). We shared two entrees and one of them was the miso-glazed chilean sea bass. Incredible! The miso glaze adds a savory and sweet flavor to the buttery flaky fish. Since then, I've been back to Rue 57 a handful of times [which is a lot when you live in the city of restaurants]. Today, I finally made my own.
I loosely followed the recipe on Epicurious. It is ready in ~15 minutes. This is going to be one of my go-to weeknight dinners. Enjoy!

Brunch at Rue 57
On our last trip to New York City, we stopped by Rue 57 to have brunch before heading back home to DC. And it was definitely a stop that was worth noting.
With the smell of warm croissants, waiters dressed in crisp white shirts and black bow ties, and the dark wood and red detailing of the restaurant, it was almost as though a little piece of Paris had been tucked into the streets of New York City.
And lately, all I've been craving is the savory Eggs Florentine dish I had ordered! A mix of sauteed spinach, mushrooms, two perfectly poached eggs all glazed over with hollandaise sauce and piled a top pieces of warm toast... this was be a dish I may have to try to recreate in my own kitchen given that the restaurant is a four hour drive away from home.
How I spent my first day in New York.
I didn't post this yesterday because I was so exhausted when I got home I pretty much crashed.
Got up, Got dressed and walked to the metro station.
Train got held up in the tunnels because a Police Investigation was happening at the next stop on a different train.
Saw Pirates at a 5 floor movie theater. I thought it was really enjoyable, though Penelope Cruz was WAY to clean to be a real pirate. Not a speck of dirt!
Walked 26 blocks, stopped at a Sephora, got awesome things and new special sunscreen.
Had lunch at one of my favorite places in New York, Rue 57. Watched fancy people talk money and the oncoming rapture.
Hung out around Central Park a bit.
Went to the LARGEST Bed Bath and Beyond ever! Seriously, it had FOOD. I bought way to much stuff.
Got grossed out by Meghan. (Edit: She made me picture Dog the Bounty Hunter's AWFUL side boob. I physically gagged)
Got really lost on the subway with way to many packages.
Walked back home, found out the stove's ignition doesn't work and has to be lit with a match.
Ate reheated chinese and watched more Pirates.
Died in bed still on West Coast time.
