What the ruck? Blog 2 9/29/2019

Early in the summer, my mom asked me if I would want to play on the U15 saracens rugby team. After me nagging her about it for three years, of course my answer was a booming YES. The day before my first practice, I was a nervous wreck. What if I wasn’t fast enough? What if I can’t tackle? When I talked about it with my friend Leah, she assured me it would all be okay. A few hours before the practice I went out and got my cleats and mouthguard. I kid you not, in the whole Sports Experts, I had TWO options of cleats. Isn’t that crazy? 

When I got to that first practice, I was so anxious I could hardly talk,  but then Olivia, who would come to be one of my closest friends came up to me and said, “Who are you?” and instantly we clicked. Throughout the summer we would have countless late night Facetime calls and numerous text conversations about any little thing. 

When I first stepped onto the pitch, some sort of wind brushed over me and made all my problems go away. That first game was so amazing and I felt so much confidence and like I had control over my life. I played all summer, getting better as the season progressed. By the end of the summer, my mom had counted and I had roughly 200 tackles as well as 4 tries. I had about 2 football field worth of breakaways. This is a game I love and I cannot wait to get back on the pitch.
