Ruin's Edge
for @errantnight, who is one of the coolest people I've ever met <3 Happy birthday, friend!
I know its unhealthy but I keep staring at my stats and its very surreal to watch the subscription count on Ruin's Edge go down.
There was a point where I got super disheartened - after chapter 9 I had a massive drop in subscriptions, like around 20+ people unsubscribed. I figured wow everyone fucking hates where this is going now don't they!? And I genuinely almost gave up!
Later on one of them came back and messaged me because they genuinely thought that the fic was OVER and I'd forgotten to mark it complete! Looking back at it I can kind of get that - a huge amount of puppet!Cloud fics do end when Cloud gives in and joins Seph and becomes his puppet. And that's what happens in the chapter... But it was nowhere near the end.
I am SO glad for all of the people who stuck around, who came back, who found it only recently or who took a break and are coming back now that its actually finished.
You all mean the world do me!

My FFVII OCs
Just a little fun thing because I've been thinking a lot about them and figured I'd throw them out there if anyone is looking for some OCs to borrow.
SOLDIER OCs
Joel Krono: A SOLDIER 2nd class in Raised by Wolves, who is 10 years older than Sephiroth, so one of the first enhanced SOLDIERs that were created. He's very calm and nurturing when it comes to Seph and Cloud, but harbors a deep well of hatred and restrained violence towards the lab personnel and Hojo in particular. Seeing what was done to them destroyed any loyalty to the company he might have once had, and plans to do everything he can to bring it down when he has a chance. He has two nicknames, Fenrir - that he gave himself to match the ones he gave Cloud and Sephiroth (Skoll and Hati) since he doesn't know their real names. His nickname from the other SOLDIERs is Squish, because he sat on a touch-me frog during his wilderness survival training.
Appearance: He has dark skin and amber Mako-eyes, his hair is shaved on the sides with thin braids on top tied back that hang down to his shoulders. His ears are pierced at the top and bottom of each, and he has a scar in his left eyebrow and several on his arms and hands.
Ronaldo Garza: A First Class friend of Joel's in RbW, he is also mentioned as a mentor figure to Angeal in Solstice Solace. He was an official mentor to Kunsel, and also never removes his helmet. He was originally scouted to join the Turks, but decided he would rather fight in the open instead of in the shadows - which doesn't mean he doesn't keep up the skills that originally made them want to recruit them. In Ruin's Edge timeline, he had allegedly died near the end of the Wutai War. Several people believe he faked his death in order to defect, but never reappeared and was never seen with Genesis or Angeal.
Appearance: he looks hispanic, with his hair shaved very short with pale green Mako-eyes, his First Class uniform alterations is a black denim jacket with the SOLDIER emblem on the back.
Luis Garza: Ronaldo's brother who joined SOLDIER several years after he did, and is about Zack's age. He appears in Ruin's Edge as a Second Class promoted to First by Sephiroth. The only alteration to his uniform he chose was to replace his boot's laces with strips of caution tape. He convinces Roche to stop getting into trouble, promoting him to Second Class in order to instill a sense of responsibility into him as Cloud's training partner.
Looks a great deal like his brother, but more slender and his eyes are amber like Joel's
Dorian Pembrose: A Second Class SOLDIER mentioned in Raised by Wolves, he is a keen strategist. He has not yet appeared, but will once the characters return to Midgar.
OTHER FFVII OCs
Regis 'Wrex' Falt: A former trooper who is little bit older than Genesis, he appeared in Ruin's Edge Ch. 31. He was a demolition specialist, and Genesis described him as "A Wutai veteran who’d almost got him blown up more than once and shown him a trick or two of what you could do with a Fire Materia and little black powder." At some point during the war he was court martialed for insubordination when he refused to bomb a civilian target that he felt had no strategic value. After getting out of prison, he got a job as a construction worker, and had a job on the excavation of the fallen Sector Six plate in the Midgar Undercity.
He has thinning gray-brown hair and brown eyes, and his hard hat is covered in obscene stickers and advertisements for clubs in WallMarket
Switchblade: The Turk's personal therapist and secret keeper, they are nonbinary and work to appear as non-threatening as possible. Their office has no windows, in a building with no directions or name plates on any of the doors. Even the single staff member who works the intake desk cannot see into the waiting room, and all of their patients are assigned a number so that the staff member will never know who they are. They have an eidetic memory, and have also heavily trained in method of loci to compartmentalize their work and make certain to be as impartial as they can. They trained Tseng in this art, so that he never needs to write anything down that he doesn't have to. In the epilogue of Ruin's Edge, they begin to help Cloud come to terms with the trauma he experienced in the lab, as well as dealing with the psychological issues caused by his time with Sephiroth when he hadn't yet regained his sanity. Weiss and Nero were in the waiting room as well.

I haven't done any art in such a long time - this took me an incredibly amount of hours from start to finish. Its an illustration for my fanfic, Ruin's Edge and will be inserted in probably the last or second to last chapter - a stained glass window of Shiva made of ice . I used elements of her design from FFX and FFVII because X has been a huge influence in my plot for awhile now and her X design is my favorite from all the games. The wings are inspired from the Loveless poem. I thought of having half of them black since 'wings of light and dark spread afar' but when I got to that point I couldn't make myself do it because it looks really good with the white surrounded by the color. Maybe I'll print it out on watercolor paper and do that with it and see how it looks and might change it then!

Alright, here it is, the very final end of this fic. This chapter is very self indulgent and I hope it is as satisfying to you as it is to me.
