Continuing on the Sefikura Odysseus omegaverse AU that is quietly consuming my brain even if I'm not posting much about it. I've now added Prompto to the fold as well (the oldest son but presents as omega so really just brings more threat to the family in the situation than support).
Cloud absolutely makes the challenge to the suitors trying to get his hand while Sephiroth is gone that they have to beat him in combat (he is the only person ever able to defeat Sephiroth and Sephiroth also the only person able to defeat him).
Once Prompto and Hope present as omega the challenge gets extended to them as well - if you want to marry one of the two kids you need to 'defeat Cloud' in combat (Riku is marrying Sora the son of Zack and Aerith so close family friends). Even after Sephiroth returns home it's still defeat Cloud - because the test is a bit more about how the possible suitor handles having to fight an omega (who is a very competent combatant) but also you know to kind of deter the marriage proposals.
Anyway fast-forward however many years to Prompto and Noctis' relationship happening.
Despite the fact that Cloud brushes off the need for the trial by combat because he is in support of this match Noctis is adamant that he wants the match against Cloud to prove himself worthy of marrying Prompto.
