typically, he tries to attend each and every one of her games. the last three have been a miss, however, and he’s dreading seeing her and having her give him a disappointed look while pretending that it was all fine. of course it wasn’t; but the state of the world was turning just a little bit darker, and he was being sent out on more and more missions to gather information.
“ please don’t be mad at me. “

there is a sting to his father’s words. he had never met amelia, and shilah had never spoken about her to him, and that was really the end of it. it wasn’t something he wanted to address. who shilah was wasn’t connected to some family lineage that he wanted to continue; his existence was lonely between the gaps of finding someone who shone brightly through that.
“ don’t look at me like that. “ she had heard most of the conversation, her anger not really concealed well. “ it’s just who he is. “

his smile is small, but his eyes light up, pleased at seeing her. “ hey, stranger. “

he presses his fingers to her cheek, glancing over her face, the pained look in it. his eyes flick with green, and his nostrils flare, jaw tight keeping himself from running past her and shifting. shilah takes in a breath.
“ -- he’s gone too far. “

she’s more embarrassed and irritated then anything else. the pain subsides slowly, a gradual heal that will probably take the next twenty minutes or so. there was no skin broken, only a heavy pressure where the bruise was forming as it was healing, a reminder that she hadn’t been paying attention well enough. that this woman felt like she had to step in for assistance.
like a petulant child, she could stomp her foot. “ ugh, i said it’s fine. “ amelia turns to look at her. “ i was going to beat them all up myself. you distracted me. “
