So is there any reason I should believe things’ll be different for me this time?” The gym leader’s skeptical towards the nature of this question, though he’s willing to humor the other for a while.  There’s a certain unpredictability to this ‘game’ that piques Volkner’s interest enough for him to cooperate. 

“Do I at least get a reward if I pick the right card or is that not how this game works?”

They haven’t been in Unova ever before in their life, but their mother insisted it would help; after all, they’ve been only living in Kalos or Hoenn their entire life.

She has a point, but Maxime decides that it hadn’t needed to be said. They huff a sigh, checking their bag to make sure all their Poke Balls are still in their proper places, before looking up and down the busy street, finally letting their eyes rest on the figure they have been searching for.
