Sorry for the bad quality gif this is the best I could do ;-;
“So,” Baby’s voice is gentle as we lay in bed, his hand gentle caressing my arm. Both of us laid on our sides, facing each other. His eyes trace my body like a precious possession. “I know we’re busy with… a lot of things,” I can’t help but giggle at his pause, to which he boops my nose playfully. “But, I want to take you out on a proper date.”
“Oh? Anything you had in mind?” I ask, shuffling closer to lean my head against his chest.
“That’s the thing,” he says, placing a gentle peck on my head. “It’s been over 400 years since I’ve been human,” he says human like he can’t find another word for what he was portraying to be. “What is a proper date like in this day and age?”
“Wow, and here I thought I would be taken out on a nice surprise date,” I tease him with a big grin on my face. “Instead, I have to plan it now,” an exaggerated sigh leaving my lips. He pinches my hip, making me squirm.
“I could also just not take you out.”
“No!” I pout, looking up at him, seeing the smirk displayed on his lips. He knew I would do anything for him, just like he would do anything for me.
“Then help me,” his voice serious. “So I can treat you like a princess on our date,” my face flushes as I nod vigorously.
The bell above the door gives a soft chime as I lead Baby inside. Warmth immediately wraps around us. The smell of fresh coffee and pastries linger in the air. The light is gentle, a soft warm glow. Cream wooden flooring with white walls.
“Close the door,” I tell him, my hand on the second door that is there to ensure the cats stay safely inside. He does, but not before pulling me away from the other door. Closing it before going past me to open the other door for me. “Why, thank you,” I grin once I recover from wanting to protest.
A lopsided smile plays on his lips as he lets me walk past, not without a peck to the top of my head.
“Annyeong,” a waitress in a white shirt with the company logo on it and a dark cream colored apron on greets us. “It’s a bit busy today, but I’ve still got a booth left by the window, is that alright for you two?”
“Yes, that would be lovely,” I nod appreciatively. Nodding back, she grabs two menus and leads us to the booth. “Thank you,” I slide into the booth, moving all the way to the center. Baby mirrors me on the opposite side, our knees almost brushing as we settle in.
“Alright, this bowl has cat treats in it, feel free to give them to the cats, but please be mindful,” she explains, handing both of us a menu. “I’ll give you guys a moment to look at the menu and be right back,” I thank her once more as she leaves.
Ignoring the menu, I look around the place. The place is indeed pretty full. There are a couple other couples, a family of four, a group of friends and even a guy on his laptop with a cat lounging in his lap.
The walls are almost completely covered in jungle gyms for the cats, including a fair few lounge shelves. Scratching posts sat in pretty much every corner of the room, both tall and shorter ones.
“There is a total of ten cats here,” Baby says grabbing my attention. Turning to him, I find him looking at the menu. Scooting closer I take a look.
And sure enough there is a full list of the cats, their names, how old they are and how they ended up here.
There is, Mimi, a white short hair, first to join the cat cafe. She is the owners cat who he rescued from drowning in the park near by.
Looking around, I try to locate Mimi. Twisting my head every which way. Causing Baby to chuckle. He cups my jaw and point my head a different direction. There I find Mimi, lounging on the lap of the guy that was working on his laptop.
“That’s so cute,” I mumble, leaning my head against Baby’s shoulder as we scan the page of cats.
“This place is quite cute, I’ll admit,” there is a soft smile playing on his lips. One rarely seen by others, though I am often on the receiving end of that smile.
“They didn’t have these 400- I mean where you came from, did they?” I correct myself, just incase anyone is paying attention to us. But he gets what I mean and sighs.
“Yeah, we didn’t have these,” I send a sad smile his way before grabbing my own menu.
“Okay, I know you have a sweet tooth,” I mumble as I scan the menu. “I highly recommend a Caramel Iced Coffee with whipped cream,” I tell him, poking his chest like I would hate him if he didn’t end up picking it. “Then…-” he pinches my mating mark teasingly making me jump and whine involuntarily. Scanning around us wide eyes. Afraid someone heard me. Thankfully nobody looked our way, turning my gaze to Baby I glare at him with a pout.
His only answer is a smirk, knowing he has me wrapped around his pinky finger. I huff, cheeks burning, my gaze returning to the menu. Holding it up like it might hide what that little action just did to me.
“What else should I try?” he asks, wrapping his arm around my shoulder. Looking over at my menu, I just pout playfully. Chuckling softly, he pecks my cheek hidden behind the menu.
“Okay, you should also try the hotteok,” pointing it out on the menu. “It’s a small pancake stuffed with brown sugar, honey, peanuts and cinnamon.”
“Sounds delicious,” he licks his lips playfully, which has my cheeks flushing once again and a chuckle escaping his lips. “Mianhae jagiya.”
“Ready to order?” I jump out of my skin at the same girl returning to take our order. Meanwhile Baby doesn’t even flinch. He just casually turns his gaze to her.
“Yes, two Caramel Iced Coffees with whipped cream and some hotteok,” he says plainly.
“Please,” I add.
“Coming right up,” she grins, her eyes flick to Baby and winks. My jaw drop open at the audacity. Watching her walk away like she didn’t just blatantly flirt with my boyfriend, my mate. My shoulders tense up in anger.
“Jagiay?” his voice cuts through my haze, there is concern mixed with confusion in his voice at my sudden change of mood. “What happened?”
My eyes snap up to mee his, and I see surprise flicker there. “She just flirted with you,” I grit out through my teeth. Voice low but sharp, like a warning. His brows knit together, not used to the possessiveness in my voice.
“The wink? I noticed.”
“You are mine,” I nearly growl pulling him closer by his color, pecking his lips harshly.
“I know, darling,” he grins. “She is a mere dust particle in comparison to you. You are my universe,” he cups my face, staring at me lovingly.
“No one flirts with my mate and gets away with it,” he nods once, devotion clear in his eyes. The kind that makes me calm down, knowing I’m the only one he’ll look at that way.
He leans in again, whispering just close enough for me to hear. “You don’t have to worry. I’m yours, and yours only.”
Our moment gets interrupted, but this time its a good interruption.
Mrrp.
Turning to my right, one of the cats has quietly decided to join us. It looks at us, blinks slowly before carefully padding closer. It circles once around my thigh then Baby’s, tail flicking lazily, before settling comfortably sprawled halfway across both our laps.
The soft weight and warmth of the cat easing the tension between us with the simple comfort of soft purring. A smile returning to my face as I reach out with gentle fingers and pet it’s head.
With my free hand, I open the menu again, scanning the list of names and photos until I find her. She’s an orange tabby named Peachy. She is apparently a gentle soul, rescued from a shelter that was being shut down for neglect and malnourishment.
“Hi, Peachy,” I murmur, my voice soft. She mrrrs back like she’s acknowledging my words, her head coming op to meet my finger tips. Baby leans closer against me, he takes the hand I used to hold the menu, lacing our fingers together and squeezing gently.
When the waitress returns with out drinks and food I don’t pay her any mind. I just ignore her, talking with Baby about an upcoming award show that they are nominated for. If she tries anything again, I don’t notice. And even if I did… I wouldn’t care. He’s not looking at her. He’s looking only at me. Especially with the subtle brush of Baby’s thumb against the back of my hand — slow circles which sooth me. Which tell me he loves me just as much as I love him.
We enjoy our drinks and food, careful of Dubu who likes to steal whatever people order. Instead we give him a treat to distract him.
We don’t leave until Peach hops off our laps. Baby wanted to leave the moment we finished eating, but I explained him the rules: if a cat sits on you, you do not move until said cat leaves. He had sighed with a grin on his face.
When it was time to pay and the waitress brought over the bill I reached for my wallet. But while no one was looking, Baby literally conjured the money and placed it on the table. Before I could say anything about it, he was already sliding out of the booth. I followed and he held the door open for me again like the gentleman he is.
“Wait, you forgot your receipt,” the - stupid - waitress called. I lingered in the hallway, watching as she handed it to him. He glanced at it, tore it up and dropped it in the bin by the door. My eyes widen at the action before sending him a smile appreciative smile.
“If it isn’t obvious, I am happily taken,” his voice monotone. He tsk’ed, rolled his eyes then turned back to me. Taking my hand, lacing our fingers together he opened the next door and led me out. Pulling my hand up, he pecks the back of my hand before letting our hand swing gently as we walk away from the cafe.
We walk side by side, the silence between us golden. Comfortable. The park is just up the street. Entering through the metal archway beautifully designed with swirls and spirals.
A gentle breeze rustles the leaves of the trees above us. Casting us in a gentle shadow against the blasting sun, it’s not extremely hot, but the breeze and shadow are definitely nice.
Following the gravel path which is surrounded by flower beds, blooming with soft pinks, lavenders and blues. Bees floating above them gently, not paying any mind to the people enjoying the park.
There’s a bench up ahead, half hidden under a willow tree. It looks out over a pond. Taking a seat I lean against him, he leans his head gently against mine.
“This was nice,” I tell him honestly, keeping his hand in my lap. Staring at the ducks swimming among the lily pads.
“It is,” Baby agrees softly. Birds chirp around us as we just sit in silence for a while. Enjoying each others company, taking in the scenery knowing it won’t be looking like this for much longer. If we actually go through with all this and let Gwi ma take over.
