                                           a  foreigner  within  the  walls  of  this  house  and  yet  she’s  still  spread  across  the  length  of  the  sheets  as  if  she’d  always  lived  here   ,   dark  locks  thrown  into  a  towel  to  dry   .   she’ll  stare  at  the  other   ,   her  fake  boyfriend   ,   a  long  day  of  awkwardly  pretending  like  they’ve  known  each  other  for  months  behind  them  and  even  more  familial  events  lurking  ahead  of  them   .       ‘       how  long  do  we  have  to  keep  this  up  ?   i  feel  like  you  can  barely  look  me  in  the  eye   .   your  mom’s  gonna  be  able  to  tell  our  chemistry  is  all  off   .       ’       nightie  adorns  a  dainty  frame   ,   something  she’d  worn  around  his  father  before   ,   disinterest  laced  across  gentle  features   .   nothing  other  than  her  greed  has  landed  her  in  the  current  situation   ,   insatiability  working  against  her  until  she’s  an  actor  in  someone  else’s  life   ,   holding  a  family  together  out  of  the  kindness  of  her  heart  when  she  could  destroy  them  in  seconds   .       ‘       you  didn’t  have  to  say  i  was  your  girlfriend   ,   so  really   ,   you  only  have  yourself  to  blame  for  that  detail   .       ’

                                  “  what  ,  is  there  something  on  my  face  ?  ”      there's  lots  on  his  face  ,  actually  .  a  boy  generally  adorned  with  outrageously  priced  suits  &  ties  is  now  in  his  more  natural  state  :  hunched  over  the  first  real  meal  he's  had  in  days  ,  bringing  new  life  to  the  phrase  ‘  missed  your  mouth  .  ’  exhaustion  is  painted  on  gentle  features  ,  the  kind  that  settles  into  every  pore  after  days  of  overwork  .  he’d  done  it  to  himself  ——  not  that  it  meant  he'd  whine  any  less  .  regardless  ,  he  had  a  day  off  now  ,  and  hazel  irises  are  much  more  welcoming  without  a  bloodshot  backdrop  ,  curtesy  of  the  computer  screens  he'd  grown  too  familiar  with  .      a  hand  reaches  for  the  nearest  napkin  ,  wiping  blindly  at  his  mouth  before  lips  curl  into  a  charming  grin  that  only  makes  an  appearance  on  rare  days  off    (  from  work  and  ‘ side  jobs '  )    .      “  well  ?   better  ?  ”      ╱    @rumrageds

                                           he  relocated  to  somewhere  sunnier  years  ago   ,   finding  sanctuary  in  a  dingy  apartment  that  oftentimes  feels  like  it’s  too  small  for  even  one  inhabitant   .   new  neighbor  had  become  a  constant  disturbance  in  his  life   ,   cohen  wide  awake  due  to  the  ruckus  being  made   ,   everything  heard  through  the  paper  walls  of  the  building   ,   patience  wearing  thin  until  he’s  stomping  one  door  over   .   fist  meets  wood  in  loud   ,   successive  knocks   ,   annoyance  boiling  even  as  his  presence  is  finally  acknowledged   .     ❛     seriously  ?   this  is  like  the  twentieth  time  this  week  !   you  know  people  sleep   ,  right  ?     ❜     exaggeration  runs  rampant   ,   the  male  unable  to  realize  who  he’s  speaking  before  taking  a  breather  in  the  midst  of  his  tangent   ,   jaw  slack  with  recognition   .      ❛     oh   .   it’s  you   .     ❜          /          @rumrageds   ,   based  on   .

                                           it’s  familiarity  that  has  him  approaching   ,   a  boldness  that  would  usually  never  see  the  light  of  day  if  he  hadn’t  gathered  a  burst  of  courage   ,   accustomed  to  making  himself  as  minuscule  as  possible  on  anyone’s  radar   ———   and  if  he  kept  his  distance  during  the  time  he  was  trying  to  talk  himself  up   ,   nobody  else  has  to  know   .   a  tap  on  the  shoulder  is  his  designated  way  of  garnering  the  other’s  attention   ,   features  alien  to  a  grin  still  trying  their  best  to  offer  something  natural   ,   something  nonchalant   .       ‘       goeun  ?       ’       stalls  there   ,   isn’t  quite  sure  what  to  begin  with  next   ———   talk  to  her  about  the  weather  ?   or  maybe  mention  something  about  how  funny  and  coincidental  it  is  to  be  seeing  her  lugging  an  oxygen  tank  down  the  street   .   oh   ,   yeah   ,   the  oxygen  tank   .   he’ll  point  at  the  device   ,   movement  stiff  with  an  inherent  awkwardness   .       ‘       is  that  for  your  grandma  ?       ’

‘    you’re  being  really   quiet   tonight   ,   it’s  kind  of   freaking   me  out   .    ’     or  it  could  just  be  that  her  guilt  has  turned  into  straight  up   paranoia   .
