Run #183
6.02 | 43:11 | 7:05 Alexandria - Holmes Run I am at the halfway point. 183 days/runs down 183 days/runs to go. As I thought about hitting this sign post, it felt like the right time to resume writing about my runs. If this were to be someone's only guide to my goal, he would have assumed I didn't even complete January. Well, despite not recording my stats and writing a little something about my run, I have run every day - (Eagle) Scout's honor. Granted, there have been more 10 minute and late night runs than I would prefer. My Garmin data can't confirm this steak, unfortunately, because it's functioned quite poorly as of late (won't charge regularly). Nevertheless, I know I have laced up and gotten out the door every day, and if someone chooses not to believe me, that's fine. This goal has always been deeply personal anyways. It's not about proving anyone wrong or showing somebody up. It's about me doing something I love, and doing it consistently. This sport—as New Balance rightly acknowledges in its name—is a love/hate thing, and you have to tip the scales in the direction you want it to be. Committing to run all 366 days and being determined to accomplish that is my finger pressing on the scale so it says LOVE/hate. On being halfway: There is something particularly important about the halfway point in running. Maybe important isn't the right word, but there is something about the midpoint. It can be minutes or miles or both. Somedays it comes as "alright, halfway done" and other days as "I can't believe I'm doing that again." My go-to midpoint mantras are "halfway home," "do what I just did," and "it's all downhill from here" (even when it's not). I'm pretty sure at least one of those passes through my mind during every run. Some updates: Since I last wrote on this blog, I have accepted and quit a job, moved to the DC area to start a different job, set a new personal longest long, run in 14 different states (if I am allowed to count both MO and DC), and brought back Run Report. This run: It was hot and humid. I definitely felt yesterday's 68 minute Philly Run Report in my legs. I explored more of series of trails along Holmes Run that I discovered while at an extended stay during my first few night in town. 183/183
