I finally finished attr as a whole and what a ride it was / pos

Gosh there are sooo many things I wanna ramble about that my head sort of gets overload and wont be able to mention all but Ill talk about whats on top of my head.

THE CHARACTERS OMG THE CHARACTERS, you make every single one of them so ALIVE I seriously cannot applaud you enough for that. You even made me fall in love with extras like Deryn, Rtsy, Yujo, the kids; Ion, Theta, Rho, Phi, Delta. God it hurt when they died.

Speaking of that, honestly the trials were one of my favorite moments in the whole fic, it just felt so raw, I really could feel Alef's sorrow, dissociation and fear. And talking about favorite moments here are some of mine: the argument Daleth and Alef had that ended in them being thrown out, the after coronation scene where Samekh and Resh are drinking their asses off, Tsadi gaining the upper head in the war after so much struggle (they so deserved it and deserved better, rip), the Samekh and Resh breakup, the meeting all of the Elders had to discuss about what to do with Resh being a stubborn idiot /silly, Resh's death and the entirety of the final chapter.

Now I realize that most of them have Resh / Alef suffering in some way and tbh I'm not sorry X] /lh

Now when it comes to favorite characters its a bit obvious that Resh and Samekh are up there (tbh you had already made me fall in love with them since falalaf) but honestly Im very surprised on how much you made me like Daleth, a lot of their chapters where some of my favorites. /g

Also! The world building stuff was immaculate, I'm not usually a super fan of world building in general but you made it so interesting in a way that it affected the lives of the characters and didn't feel like an info dump whatsoever, the newspaper sections where super fun!

The ending being a paralel to the beginning was so good too, the way it is the same rock that Alef left and how now it will travel with the child who doesn't get to fully be a child like Alef wasn't is AAAAAA /pos

Now when it comes to constructive criticism, honestly I don't have a bunch. If anything is just one and not only does it not happen a lot but also it is very easy to fix, but I'll say that some paragraphs felt a bit too long? Like it may be me and my poor eye sight but when I encountered one of these big paragraphs I would get lost, not know where I was and have to re-read it again. One example that I could recall from the top of my head was when Rtsy was telling Resh that everything was fucked up basically / lh:

“Well, Valley is legally a neutral territory. Has been, for a week now — their borders are open to all realms, with barely any control… I have heard they had restarted Light collection. Both manual and Darkstone. But, uh… Their trade with Eye of Eden has plummeted in the past seven days; we keep getting notified about raised tax rates and new restrictions. Our predictions in that regard are… m-mostly pessimistic… Hm, then, Vault has provided their monthly report about how our funding has been used. It appears that they have been focusing on medical research, especially in the field of psychology… Magic-related studies have been on the rise, too… There are also a few initiatives attempting to find a way to restore Light balance in Wasteland/Shores. It is mostly theory, but they have started implementing a few strategies — without Their Grace the Wasteland/Shores Elder’s permission, interestingly, as they claim here, but still… Also, a statement from Their Grace the Vault Elder — it is fairly short, but, um, I shall summarise it even further. They express their desire to focus on the three aforementioned spheres and stop any consultations or strategy-making related to the military action. Speaking of which, we have quite a lot of updates.” There is some more rustling. Resh does not want to hear whatever Rtsy has to say. “To begin with, all Valley troops have withdrawn. Completely. Prisoners have been released by Their Grace the Wasteland/Shores Elder voluntarily within forty-eight hours after Valley’s announcement. Eye of Eden troops are concentrated primarily in the Central city; there are battles for each street… The Southern regions are mostly under the Anti-Darkstone coalition’s control. Additionally, we have had more and more claims about the Anti-Darkstone coalition using Dark Dragons to attack our army. Our soldiers simply refuse to fight when faced with these — we have had more and more deserters as of late, and our people’s tendency to run away seems not to be affected by punishment. They are… Th-they seem to envy the Valleyers. Although measures are being taken to reduce insubordination.”

Maybe your intention was to make it feel overwhealming just like Resh was probably feeling but I think you can still manage to do that by just splitting the paragraph and letting the amount of information be overwhealming by itself, instead of having it all in one chunk of paragraph that is hard to read.

And yeah thats the only criticism I have! Overall the fic was AMAZING, honestly I can confidently say it is my favorite sky cotl fic so far and that I love the way you write. You can say you got yourself an official fan of your works haha, you may have mixed feelings of the fic itself (which is valid) but I think you should be proud of what you have accomplished. Not many can have the dedication to sit down and pour their heart into writting for hours and publish it, and I wanna thank you for that. /g

When I was reading the fic I sort of could see your "heart" in it, attr is undoubtly something that comes from you and it felt kind of special to have a sort of conversation with you while I was reading it (if that makes any sense haha). Anyways from the bottom of my heart, thank you for writting, for taking your time and effort into making something that is special for me and I wish you the best of luck in whatever you write next. /pos

i wrote lamed and daleth hanging out back in like may but that ended with them (probably) dying so i think imma have another go at this. hopefully they survive this time /silly

i wrote this while listening to a letter from a notable source by beetlebug (i'm still normal about beetlebug's stuff wow), so the same song as the first fic. idk why i'm saying this but anyway beetlebug's songs are all 12/10 my favs are overgrown garden, scarecrow, embers, edge of the world, and honestly a bunch of others (the first two of the songs listed here are actually on my daleth playlist for Reasons ahsgahfgagfh)

anyway exploration of questionable ways to cope with grief again yay that's a prominent theme in my writing for some reason

“…It is not that the roof cannot be repaired.” Lamed says, lowering their teacup and turning around. A ghostly shape with large wings — it used to be a manta, back when it was alive; it may still be a manta of sorts — flies by before soaring back into the skies. Daleth finds the translucent creature unsettling in the same way Death is. They do not, surprisingly, have the same sensation when interacting with spirits. It must be because spirits are close to them, in all meanings of the word, while the ghostly mantas are so, so far away, farther than anyone or anything has ever been.

The Vault Elder squints at the creature for a second before looking down at the table. They grab a biscuit and let their eyes roam over its surface. The pause seems drawn out, but Daleth does not push their interlocutor; before, they may have tried, but now, they know there is not really a point in it.

A few seconds pass in quiet contemplation of the pastry. Distant sounds of ghost mantas — or some other inhabitant of the endless skies; the Isle Elder is not sure how many species live here — resound high above. There is a note of melancholy in their voices — or maybe that melancholy is in Daleth’s ears and head and on their very face, forever scarred and lifeless for even longer. Maybe, the melancholy is in the air, permeating every inch of every object, person, place.

Or maybe, it is not melancholy at all. Maybe, it is grief.

Daleth is not sure.

Lamed sighs quietly, barely audibly, and puts the biscuit back on the plate.

“it is not that the roof cannot be repaired,” they start again, that very same melancholy (grief, Daleth knows they should call it; but it is easier to pretend it is something else) heavy in their voice, “it is that… I quite like it this way, to be honest.”

For a moment, Daleth does not know how to respond. They settle on voicing their thoughts.

“You like having a gaping hole in your ceiling from where the Sky itself is staring at you every waking second, Life and Death intertwining right before your eyes? Lamed, I know you are… braver than most… but — does it not terrify you? Does it not feel like witnessing something so sacred it must not be seen for the sake of the observers themselves?”

The Vault Elder shrugs, their gaze travelling back to the stars above. Their lightless eyes devour the faint glimmer emitted by the constellations as if they were starving beasts.

“It feels like Home…” Lamed says before going silent for a very, very long time.

A shiver runs don Daleth’s spine.

Those dead creatures scream in the distance — the Isle Elder fears that if they hear the sound again, they will either kick something or break down crying.

“Home is forever unreachable for us,” they say bitterly, their right hand gripping the table. “We are but spectators trapped down here, and that,” they simply nod, unwilling to look up, “is just an illusion, a pathetic mockery of what Home is like.”

They feel their entire body trembling. Daleth forces their broken lungs to take a deep breath and begins mentally list the objects they see on the table. Napkin. Plat. Teacup. Kettle. Another teacup. Biscuits. Lamed’s hand clenched into a fist.

The Isle Elder raises their eyes to look at their interlocutor’s face, lost in thought. When Daleth’s gaze travels back to their fist, it has already relaxed.

“Not a mockery, Daleth. A model. An object on a smaller scale meant to represent something that cannot be studied otherwise.”

Daleth feels sick.

“You have Life and Death in your books. I have them up there.” Lamed gestures towards where the roof is supposed to be. A ghostly manta cries out, and something breaks in the Isle Elder’s heart. There is a soft tapping of fingers against the table, but Daleth chooses to keep their eyes close. Who knows what might happen to them if they remained opened instead.

There is no continuation to that speech, but the Isle Elder does not push. Before, they may have tried, but now, they know there is not really a point in it.

They come back next week.

the two of them find comfort in each other's presence even if they're sitting in silence. being next to each other grounds them and makes them feel less anxious or overwhelmed when they're surrounded by other people or have a lot of responsibilities that they aren't sure they can handle well

teth is very protective of ayin and their avpd can be overriden if they see ayin is in trouble or under a lot of pressure i'm definitely not projecting what are you talking about ayin, despite sometimes coming across as somewhat anxious and shy, can be very harsh if you aren't being nice to teth. though most of the time they only respond because they know that it is teth who does it, the offender is likely to have -21376727912 psychic damage

ayin loves and respects teth's anger issues. and their pathetic wet cat issues too. contrary to daleth, they offer reassurance and give teth space rather than call them out on their bullshit. also contrary to daleth, they rarely see teth at their lowest i'm not projecting i would never

teth purrs if ayin pets them but doesn't let most people touch them at all. that's it that's the headcanon

sometimes, ayin blames themself for giving teth too much space and insisting too little on things that really matter. like when teth kept overworking themself and ruined their health. or when teth was isolating themself. or he whole darkstone thing

on a happier note: before, ayin and teth would often send each other birds with letters or short notes with "i love you"s or other silly nonsense. nowadays, they sometimes use sky kids as messengers as well (though these are not always reliable (they are more straightforward though))

teth is scared of mantas. these things freak them out. ayin is the only one who knows

ayin is the type of person who would not hesitate to show people how much they're appreciated with grand gestured. teth says they don't need them. ayin insists. teth actually does need these

teth says they don't like cute little dates and small silly gifts. they're a liar

ayin likes calling teth pet names. teth's brain short-circuits every time

teth is emotionally repressed and mentally ill so they don't use pet names for ayin at all. well. they did it like once and died of cringe. ayin did find it adorable though and still thinks about it to this day

these two are kinda shit at communication. there may be a lot of mutual understanding between the two, but far too many things are left unsaid for their relationships to truly work

ayin sometimes accidentally produces spoonerisms when nervous. if you laugh, teth will tear you to shreds

teth is the kind of person to play chica's magic rainbow with sound for 10 hours in a row attempting to beat it and then ugly cry. ayin would just run around in fazbear hills before crafting an elaborate plan to beat the game with the best party and stuff i'm talking about fnaf world again why am i like this

if it wasn't obvious from the previous point, teth is a masochist. and a sad wet cat. ayin is surprisingly good at understanding which of the two is more prominent at a specific moment

ayin knows enough about flowers and the flower language to send teth silly little messages encoded in bouquets. teth borrows a book about it from lamed
