On paper, this weekend was the end of the track season. Drew had earned a spot to run at the CIF Southern Section Masters Meet where all schools in all divisions compete to earn the final 6 spots for the California State Meet in Clovis, CA. He’d scratched the 200m after CIF prelim qualifying to focus only on relays and the 400m. He came in as the 8th seed in the 400m putting him way out in lane 9 running “blind” for the first 250m. Coming out of the last turn he was shoulder to shoulder with 7th place and he put 3 years of work into the last 40m to claim his spot. A rollercoaster, sometimes bittersweet day today at CIF SS Finals. The kids put together a good 4x100m to advance Drew smashed his 400m PR to advance and decided on scratching the 200m to give the team their best chance in the 4x400m. Luck wasn’t on their side in the final event. These kids don’t sulk or have regrets though. ANHS finished 5th overall after being off the radar for a top 10 finish. League PRE-LIMS complete with Drew winning all his heats. Final dual meet of high school for @krew_doesel. Facing league rival @danahillshighschool he was able to collect wins in the 400, 200, and anchor the winning 4x100m squad. There are no guarantees. There is no secret to success. When I reflect on this kid’s path I’m overwhelmed with the tenacity and perseverance he’s displayed to get here. Broken, injured, setbacks, and disappointments don’t derail the goals and ambition. @krew_doesel has surpassed every expectation but his own.
