rune
i created rune in 4th grade. i remember receiving my very own first sketchbook. it was mixed media and had a hard cover with spirals that easily came undone. i had these shitty watercolor pencils i got from one of those art sets a family member would get you from artists loft. at the time, which this wouldnt be of surprise, i was a huge warrior cats fan. i doodled so many warrior cats sketches in that first sketchbook of mine. from the cringe split screen ones, how to draw an anime cat and making it leafpool “i can be your angle or your devil”, and so forth. at the time, as an edgy 4th grader, scourge and snowtuft were my favs, alongside brightheart. i thus created my own character, inspired by all those 3 combined. thus, came rune. for a while he didnt have a name, until when i gained access to deviantart, i made a sketchbook drawing of him. now, for those who had deviantart were fully aware of the AMOUNT of info you would have to put when you wanted to post something. i filled it all out, then came the title. well, the title should probably be his name, right? what would be a fitting name? well, aside from warrior cats, another passion of mine was skyrim. skyrim was the first video game i fell in love with, as i would spend hours watching my dad play and eventually, he let me play too. i was always a khajit of course, focused in two-handed weapons and especially all the side quests. i adored the medieval esscence, especially with the runes and magic elements in skyrim. As runes resemble harsh, sharp markings, and this character had a lot of scars, so came rune, at the ripe age of 11. It’s crazy how throughout all this time, at the age of 23, I still draw this feline character, utilize him as a representation of myself, and see him in everything i do. i still hold the first ever piece i made close, and i have it hanging up in my cubicle.
despite the hardships of adulthood, and how hard it has been adjusting into this new chapter of my life, i think 11 year old me would be really proud.
