Lawrence had expected this to be a rant about the latest episode of Lance and Janice, or something similar. But now that he was standing in the room he could see how nervous the Doctor looked, which was quite unusual. Clearly, something wasn’t right.

The butler took a few seconds to set the heavy laundry basket aside, then returned his half-lidded gaze to his employer.

“All right then, sir. What is it that’s bothering you?”

Suppressing a sigh, the robotic butler appeared in the doorway carrying a large basket of dirty laundry. “Is this terribly important, sir? I’m rather busy at the moment.”

“Oh, I see,” Lawrence replied. “It’s nice to meet you as well. You can call me Lawrence.”

“I haven’t decided what I’m going to give Nefarious this year,” Lawrence told Cherish as he pushed a shopping cart down the aisle. “Last holiday season, I got him a ‘Universe’s Worst Boss’ mug. To my disappointment, he ended up liking it.”

He stopped to look over a lengthy shopping list, debating where to head first. “Do you want to go and look at the Christmas ornaments?”

After more than a decade serving Dr. Nefarious, (though it felt much longer than that), Lawrence finally decided enough was enough and turned in his resignation. Well, to be more precise, he had abandoned the Doctor right in the middle of his latest failed scheme, leaving him to deal with a giant, rampaging monster. But that was typically how “quitting” tended to work in the field of villainy. 

He didn’t have another job lined up, at such short notice, but hopefully it wouldn’t be too hard to find a more tolerable employer. Preferably one who didn’t yell at him so much and who gave him actual vacation time. 

But after several weeks with no luck finding anything, the butler decided to take his job search to another galaxy for a change. Landing at the first populated planet he came across, he exited his ship to have a look around.

Casey let out a sight “hmmph” But stay suspicious of what the robot tried to do.  He got too overprotective of his drum set, in which it true. He pretty much has some emotional connections to that instrumental ever since his parent buys it for him. It helps him releasing that energy inside of him by beating on it with a pair of drumstick. “Yeah. Just Don’t tries to do somethin’ silly to it o-kay?” He said to the robot.

“I assure you I wasn’t planning to,” the robot replied. “Here, I’ll step away if that would help ease your concern.” And he did just that, putting what he thought was a good sized distance between himself and the drum set. Lawrence was also quite protective of his bass guitar so he could understand the other’s worry.

“So how long have you played drums?”

“Alright! I have Dolls, Fright Night, The Reanimator, Phantasm, The Puppetmaster, and The Stuff. Do those sound appropriately schlocky and enjoyable for a rainy day horror marathon?”

“All of those sound perfectly schlocky.” Being from another galaxy, Lawrence had never heard of any of them, but he imagined Earth horror movies were more or less similar to the ones back home. “Which one do you think we should start with? Maybe we could work our way from Best to Worst?”

Ordinary, Lawrence tried to avoid traveling to places with a heavy police presence. But he needed to make a few stops in Meridian City, so he didn’t have much of a choice today. 

Well, it should be fine. He had a cloaking device installed on the ship he was piloting, and he wouldn’t dawdle -- just quickly finish his errands and then leave. 

About five minutes later, however, it became apparent there was a slight problem with that plan. The aforementioned cloaking device had stopped working. Oh, goodie. Sometimes Lawrence really had to wonder why he tended to have such terrible luck. He briefly debated about turning back around, but he’d already come all this way. Leaving now would be a large waste of both time and fuel. So he kept on flying, intending to get this trip done as quickly as possible.
