I love that this #philadelphia #townhome has a pass through rather than a garage. So many #architectural features happening here: the #masonry course beneath the precast trim running across the second floor was laid in a #runningbond while the bricks above the trim are laid in an #englishcrossbond which means that for every five layers of #stretcher laid bricks, there is a layer of alternating stretchers and #header laid bricks. 🧱 The vertical oriented bricks in a slight arch over the driveway is called a #soldiercourse. The #ornamentation beneath the #corniceline (or the horizontal line where the roof and the bricks meet) are called #brackets. Two points of interest for this facade: 1) Notice that the window is eight panels over twelve panes. Usually you will see the same amount over the same amount in a #sashwindow such as this. (Example would be eight-over-eight, twelve-over-twelve, and most commonly in #oldcity and #societyhill six-over-six.) 2) Notice the change in brick bonds. From the bottom, ever six rows are #runningbond and split by a row or Flemish bond until it transitions to #flemishbond completely. The incorporation of the black bricks highlights this change.
