Tobias’s brow arches at the sight of the amount of people that were so desperate to meet his acquaintance. He clears his throat a little, eyes scanning over each and everyone of them, before his lips pull up into a grin. “Well, hel-lo there, sweethearts. Isn’t this a pleasant surprise.” He chuckles to himself as he shoves his hands into the pockets of his jeans. “I’m Tobias.”

The most interesting thing the shadow has found here is a coat. By far the heaviest piece of clothing it's taken interest in, it struggles with the weight to pull it off the hanger. It falls, eventually, but the hanger falls with it and makes a loud thud. Oh no! Noises make people angry and yell. It dips down and curls up under the garment before the coat's owner sees it.
To be Fearful of the Night
Lying on her bed fully clothed, Bex had felt it coming. She'd felt it coming for days. But had put it off to the last possible second. And the moment her eyes flicked open to the flash of light from the stars outside her window, she knew the last possible second was upon her. This world was going to die if she didn't get out of bed and do her damn job.
Pulling her hair up into a bun as she padded barefooted down the halls toward her best friend's room, Bex was trying desperately not to start crying already. She didn't need shoes, or her hair in her face. She didn't need much except herself and her best friend. The one person she loved so Earth-shattering-ly that she would never make it without him.
There was still the possibility she wouldn't make it all. but what kind of a thought was that? Not one to dwell upon, that was for sure.
The moonlight caressed her feet as they trod down the hall, as her toes squished softly into the carpet, as the floor pushed back against her weight. It was dark. But how could she fear the dark?
It was like that old poem, The Old Astronomer to His Pupil, "I have loved the stars too fondly to be fearful of the night."
Bex had loved the stars so fondly she became one. Light was within her and it was her. But not for long. Soon enough she'd be made of the same bland, mortal material as everyone else. She would not shine in the night any longer, but lie in the grass and stare at what she used to be.
Many would likely think she should not have done it, should have let that world die, found an alternate of it and made all her friends over again. But she couldn't bear it. The very thought of losing all she'd had, all the memories of that world being worth nothing, made her feel empty inside.
She would not lose those she could remember with, as a girl had in a beautiful book she picked up once. The sweet young lady had said, “The pleasure of remembering had been taken from me, because there was no longer anyone to remember with."
Bex couldn't let that happen. Wouldn't let that happen. She wouldn't let Reality lose a bright, shining star in its sky. She would give her light to keep it burning.
It was funny. She felt empty thinking about how it would be if she did not do it, but she would feel emptier when she had.
Yet, she kept walking, going towards the one person whose help she could not do without.
[Response 2/3: Run]
Breathing hard, Bex re-gripped the handle of her blade, her back up against the wall, her best friend at her side. It was an accident, honestly, but somehow they'd been found. By who? No idea. What they wanted? It was a very long list of possibilities. Nomadic hero work made a lot of enemies. Sometimes those enemies came after you when yoou went to dinner with your best friend.
"Ash, duck!"As soon as he was out of the way, Bex fired a blast of light at the shadowy enemy that had come up right in Ash's blind spot. She knelt down, facing him, as soon as the goon was dust. There were more, but she needed a moment.
"Are you okay?" she panted, frowning in concern. This was all her fault, and she knew it. Instead of answering, he just forced her lower into a crouch, and she saw a jet of light fly out from his wand over her head, into whatever had come up behind her.
It was going to be a long night.
~~~
One knee on the ground, sword point on the ground, Bex panted. She'd finished off the last one. Well, actually, if it was measured chronologically, Ash had two seconds later. Because her best friend was a freaking bamf.
"Next time," her sword disappeared from her hand in a second as she stood, "Let's just order a pizza."
She could hear Ash's chuckling all the way home.
runningfromnightmares replied to your post: Hello. My name is Elder Capulet, and I would like to share with you this book of Jesus Christ. -holds out the Book of Mormon and smiles, obviously trying not to laugh-
-He smiles more and shrugs- A long time, and would you like to change religions? I have a book written by Jesus Christ. -he holds it up-
Ashes, I stopped going to churches when angry evils of the universe started following my Jumperyness there. *She tucks back a strand of his hair, smirking and playing along* Besides, I've known you for a long time. Why now?
((I know I've been massively AWOL and I am massively sorry))
There were problems and hiding and driving and video games and visiting family and lasagna and mini golf and nothing was expected and I'm very very sorry I love you all I really do *cuddles*
Good evening, Countess.
