Shogun (2024) Ep. 6 spoilers

Shogun really came out today with Episode 6 and said "we are coming for House of the Dragon's 'ex-besties turned rival and war crimes' throne this year" (no dig on HOTD btw, I am fully subscribed to both)

Also: I am here to once again uncritically say that Fumi Nikaido is everything I expected her to be in this role and more--and amazingly it's even more explicitly sympathetic to what would make the historical Chacha/Yodo as ambitious and grasping as she tends to be in other fiction.

Yooo the way I SCREAMED knowing that Eita and Momo were finally face-to-face!? I've been hoping they'd meet this whole time!!

Then he turned on the ice and got the handsy guys to leave, yessss!! Even though there wasn't much too it, I'm glad they got to have a little exchange ^^

The fact that she's not just thinking about how hot he is and actually registers that he's a weird lil dude works in her favor as well imo - Momo's trouble is that she's desperate to fall in love - but were there some points that kept her at a distance at first, I think it'd allow her to develop a connection more naturally...!

And of course Eita has his own life going on, with most of his attention going to Runa - as it stands, I doubt he'd be able to put a romantic partner first even if he were interested... but one problem at a time!!! For now I just want interaction of any kind.

My Love Story with Yamada-kun at Lv999 (2023, Japan)

Mini-review:

This was cute! It was certainly predictable, but all the characters are likable and the show was clearly made by pros. In fact, it didn't surprise me at all when I realized Morio Asaka and Madhouse were behind this. They have made some of the best animes of all time and they clearly know how to make the most of their skills even for a relatively simple story. Anyway, I really liked the way the characters develop. I know some people might be uncomfortable with the age gap, but the show handles it gracefully and I wasn't bothered by it at all. I also loved how they incorporated games and gaming into the plot. I think I hadn't seen that in a romcom before, so it felt quite refreshing and helped make up for the predictability of the whole thing. That being said, the ending felt somewhat anticlimactic and sudden. It did make me look forward to future episodes, though, so maybe that was the goal. To sum up, I'd recommend this if you're looking for a solid, feel-good anime romcom.
