ruskaa is v much styrlona's impulses in hw. she chases after ilberd when they go to rescue raubahn & almost kills one of his accomplices. she leaps from the vault onto the archbishops ship and attacks him. she never lets an enemy finish monologuing and she is never polite to temple knights. she's offputting to anyone and everyone and the whole time styrlona's like damn. i wish i could be like her.

thinking abt styrlona & ruskaa. thinking abt how heavensward is styrlona's expac & stormblood is ruskaa's. thinking about how despite this, the only tank class styrlona never touches is dark knight. all the grief she feels about minfilia & the scions & then haurchefant and she never encounters fray bc ruskaa got there first.

i haven't even decided if fray dies in ruskaa!verse or if meeting ruskaa spares him bc she's there when the temple knights come. idek if ruskaa becomes a dark knight or if her presence just prevents styrlona from becoming one.

she's styrlona's weird traumatised obsessive shadow that hangs around the edges of heavesward, absorbing all the grief and pain that strylona doesn't let herself feel & doesn't show to others.

grishkin gets the echo and becomes a warrior of light, befriending the scions, finding love all across the star, discovering wonders and saving the world.

ruskaa gets the echo and experiences inconceivable horrors at the hands of the empire for four years straight then escapes into a world full of kindness she can no longer understand and love she can no longer express.

thinking. about grishkin and ruskaa as part of each others lives in their respective wolverses. they go on a journey and come home impossibly changed. and their friend isn't the same either but they haven't travelled they've stayed. they're childhood best friends. they're strangers. they're each other's only martial equal. they can never truly be equal. they're Chosen. they're no one special. they chose themselves. they rejected fate.

and most importantly? they're blue.
