Alternative Spring Break

This is Part 2 of the RU Alternative Breaks Post from last week.

The rest of the trip consisted of 2 feet of snow, a carnival, a lot of dancing and singing, an intense basketball game, and meeting some amazing people.

Service is making a positive impact in someone's life. This trip taught to stop being afraid of coming out of my shell and that even the tiniest of acts can make the biggest of differences.

Go out and do something good for someone else and you will not regret it.

My name is Rico Cabredo. I'm a staff photographer for the Daily Targum. Last week, while most people spent their Spring Break on the beach, I was at the Crotched Mountain Rehabilitation Center in Greenfield, New Hampshire with 11 other people doing service work that involved people with disabilities. It was all part of the Friends and Benefits Alternative Spring Break. You might say, "Rico, why did you opt to spend you break isolated on a mountain in the freezing cold?" At first, I wasn't so sure myself, but as the week went by, I began to realize my/our purpose for being there. Naturally, I took a lot of photos. We weren't allowed to take any photos of the clients, so this 2-part set is a behind-the-scenes look at our work. A lot of these photos were taken by me, but Merz Lim (our trip's staff partner) and Tiffany Lou (Targum trainee photographer) also contributed to this set. Part 2 will be up in the next few days.
