Ivan Shishkin -- Russian Forest
Ivan Shishkin - Teutoburg Forest, 1865, oil on canvas Ivan Shishkin, Titan of the Russian Forest, (1832 - 1898) was a Russian landscape artist, famous for his painting of native forests. He started drawing as a child and used his meticulous drawings as a means of studying nature. Shishkin studied at the Moscow School of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture and then attended the Saint Petersburg Imperial Academy of Arts. He graduated with the highest honours and a gold medal.
