I've been learning how to read cyrillic, but I'm having a hard time finding resources on different fonts? Because even reading your handwriting it looks different than the text i usually see online. (also cursive cyrillic looks impossible please explain that)
OKAY SO first of all here’s the comparison of all the three fonts that work for cyrilic i have (plus italic, some letters look a bit different so i’m including it just in case):
tbh that’s about all the information i can give you on fonts, so now let’s go to cursive!!
now, that’s what russian cursive is supposed to look like:
it’s how children are taught to write (there are a few variations of some of the letters, it depends on the educational program that schools choose, the differences are very small though, and this is the most common type), and handwriting like this usually lasts up until the end of elementary school, and then everyone decides to get creative. it means that there are no rules anymore, and kids start trying out new ways to write letters, plus most people try to write faster so some elements of cursive letters get changed. and as a result most people have handwriting that is based on the ‘traditional’ cursive but is actually a mixture of.. well. everything.
i wouldn’t say hopping straight to reading russian cursive, especially if it’s written by a regular person who really doesn’t care if others can understand their handwriting at all (like me!) is impossible, but i wouldn’t say it’s the best idea. first of all, you have to learn to write in cursive - if you understand how everything works it will be a lot easier to read. of course, the bigger your vocabulary is, the easier it is, but still, it shouldn’t stop you from trying :D
an example of text written in ‘correct’ cursive:
examples of text written in... something else:
well... hopefully that clears things out a bit! :D good luck!! <3

Ah, so Im considering taking Russian as a foreign language as I find it's a very interesting and beautiful language. I was just wondering if you could make that list of cool Russian songs you mentioned? (My ex uncle was Russian and it sounded v cool!
OF COURSE!!
HERE are some songs I like (and want people to listen to them >:)) of different performers:
Земфира - Я полюбила вас, В метро, Воскресенье
Машина времени - Место, где свет
Високосный год - Лучшая песня о любви
Сплин - Рай в шалаше, Романс, Бог устал нас любить, Она была так прекрасна, Ай лов ю!
АлоэВера - Это море, Несуразная, Не помню - не было
Курара - Нас двое, Надо больше хорошего
Весна в Сан-Бликко - Виноваты оба, Художница, Мёртвые, Письмо, Танго
NOW some songs that have famous poems as the lyrics:
Сурганова и оркестр - Неужели не я? (Бродский)
Сплин - Маяк (Маяковский)
Кукрыниксы - Пой же, пой на проклятой гитаре (Есенин)
ALSO there’s this awesome song - Don’t leave me (Ne Me Quitte Pas) by Regina Spektor, and here’s the same song in Russian!! :D
AND NOW MY FAVORITE!!
Ежовы рукавицы - unfortunately, they don’t have a lot of songs on youtube, and what they have are not official recordings. Here’s a link to their page in VK just in case!! Here are some of their wonderful amazing perfect songs:
Поствокзальная, Любовь, Бабская, Мелкий бес, Город, Я, Колыбельная Яги, Песня про ухо, О пользе вязания
That will be all for now! Good luck! <3
Hey! I've just enrolled in a beginners Russian class, and I'm very excited! I don't know too much yet, just whatever Duolingo has taught me so far, but the alphabet is great and it's always satisfying when you say the words right. Any tips for someone starting to learn Russian?
WELL first of all: i love youand congratulations!! i'm so exited for you!! :D
unfortunately i'm farfrom an expert at learning russian but i'm happy to tell you some tips i usefor learning other languages as well as what i think might work with russian!!
one of the most important things is to learn new words within phrases, not just out-of context words. although this one is useful not only for beginners, it's SO IMPORTANT for russian. words in russian change in so many ways, it's impossible to comprehend all the factors that influence it when you're just beginning!
russian has grammatical gender system, so i'd recommend to memorize nouns with the right form of the pronoun "my" where мой is used for masculine, моя - for feminine, моё - for neuter (мой кот - my cat, моя машина - my car, моё солнце - my sun) even if it doesn't make a lot of sense, it's easier to remember the gender of the words this way!
write as much in russian as you can, even if they’re just simple small things. for example, learn the names of the days of the week, of months, and write them in russian from now on! (you can write names in cyrillic, too, it will definitely be great for your spelling skills!)
there are lots of blogs on tumblr about learning russian! unfortunately, i don't follow many of them and I can’t give you a lot of links, but this one is quite good to my mind! it has many little texts about russia, and i think it explains stuff quite well?? ALSO you can sign up for vk, it's a mostly russian-speaking website (sorta like facebook but. you know. in russian)
you can try to write a little bit about how your day was every evening. it doesn’t sound like much, but I find it really helpful (for me at least!) it doesn't have to be much, just several sentences, but try to use the new words and phrases you've learnt during the day
when it comes to listening the authentic speech is essential!! listen to lots of songs in russian and try to sing along!! and if you're by any chance watching a russian movie, try to find it with subtitles only (if you’re feeling extra confident it can be russian subtitles! :D) you can also try to find russian dub versions of movies you already know and watch them with either english or russian subtitles!!
i'd also recommend to learn russian cursive! it's cool and in russia almost everyone writes in cursive!!
learning poems by heart is a good way to memorize words and patterns in speech and practice sounds and it’s cool when you know a lot of poems so there’s literally no cons here :D
to practice russian pronunciation you can try tongue-twisters! there're some that are quite easy to begin with!
it seems that's all i can think of right now.russian is endlessly amazing and also seems awfully hard to learn, so if you'vesigned up for it you're already a hero!! :D
ofcourse you have to find something that works for you, but I hope it’s helpful anyway!!
удачи в изучении!! <3
