VALVE'S ECONOMIST IN RESIDENCE
So Valve - the company that makes video games like HALF-LIFE and PORTAL and runs STEAM, the online community / marketplace for downloading games - has an "Economist In Residence." His name is Yanis Varoufakis. He is Greek, and - as I learned from this podcast on EconTalk with Russ Roberts - he was brought in to Valve because company co-founder Gabe Newell saw a lot of similarities between the economics of STEAM and those of the eurozone.
The podcast comes highly recommended by me in part because Varoufakis - vis-a-vis the methodology inside Valve - expands on some of the ideas about consumers and producers I brought up in my post on "The Harlem Shake"
Finally, for what it's worth, the media loves to talk about who might be "The Next Steve Jobs"... yet no one ever mentions Newell. I think they should.
