Modern dance pioneer Ruth St. Denis looks outstanding here in her 1919 work “Kuan Yin” in which she turns herself into the Chinese goddess of mercy and compassion. She certainly fits right in here at Beads of Paradise, where we have no shortage of products depicting the goddess, to say nothing of how she fits in all bedecked out in so many beads! I spotted an article in the NY Times about modern dance costumes from several years ago that shows off the costumes from this dance in fabulous detail, so you can see all of the fantastic, playful, and meticulous beadwork achieved in her costume.
