So raccoons will wash all food you give them before they eat it; including, unfortunately, sugar cubes (which immediately dissolve). They will be instantly confused and distraught about this and still, without heistation, wash it in the nearest stream if you give them another one.

So I'm not saying Varian's wanted to treat Ruttiger (or just gotten bored), did this, and instantly felt bad about it, but....
