I spent a good part of yesterday with two great friends. I went to high school with Mike but did not truly get to know him well until we reconnected at a high school reunion. That's when I met his wife, Lynn, and we have been good friends ever since. We never lived close enough to grab coffee or lunch together on a regular basis. Until recently, they lived in IL and we were in WI - and now, they've retired to AZ, and we've become nomads!😉 But location was never an issue. We stay in touch- phone calls, messages, visits when one couple or person was in town or area. ** Good friends-friendships- are worth the effort. Being on the road, away from so many who mean so much, has reinforced that for me! 💜💜💜 ** Stay close to those you love. Make the effort to keep connected. If you've lost touch or become distracted, this is the perfect time to reach out again. Don't let the ball drop in your court. Life is too short. ** (The picture shows the gifts they gave us. So thoughtful and special! A glimpse into our full time RV life~ Our current address is at Lake Pleasant Regional Park, in Maricopa County, AZ. The park has a main gate as well as gates to access the campgrounds. No key code or pass/no access. Well, except for the wild burros, who really don't care about silly rules and gates! I was waiting to get thru the main gate yesterday when a bit of movement caught my eye. A wild burro had come down from the mountainside that abuts the gate area and sauntered around a closed gate, onto the walkway around the building. Not a care in the world! I scrambled to grab my phone and managed to snap a couple of pictures thru the windows. ** Today, the theme song from 'the Jeffersons' is running thru my head! We have hit the big time! This is our version of living in a gated community! In the time we've been camped here in the high Sonoran desert, I have become attached (pun intended) to this huge Saguaro cactus growing behind our campsite. I walk out there every day. Its entire side is charred; no prickers. That's great for me! I xan touch it and feel its spirit. Some of you may not understand that right away - others know exactly what I mean. Exposing itself, so to speak, is brave. Those sharp needles are its protective armor. And, surviving with almost half of its surface helplessly bare must be frightening. Yet, it stands tall. Proud. Unflinching. I will come back here again and find this Saguaro. We will connect, share ourselves, be comfortable and open. As if we'd never been apart. In the past 2 1/2 months, we've been to/thru 20 states. If it's shown me anything, it's that there are opinions and beliefs on all points of the covid spectrum. And, mine may not be the same as yours. We have seen people alone in their vehicle, wearing a mask. (I like to think they are having conversations with an imaginary friend and wear the mask so no one sees their lips moving!😉) We have been required to wear masks in certain government buildings, but not for the entire time once inside (I guess the covid germs get scheduled breaks and don't violate those union rules!🙃) And we've been to many places with signs telling us we don't have to wear masks if we are fully vaccinated; but if not, please do. (If you're vaccinated and I am not, I should not be a threat to your health, right? Again, my opinion....) ** But here's the best part: a lot of America is made up of wide open spaces. Go there. Enjoy the outdoors. Soak up the sunshine. Let the wind ruffle your hair. Do it freely. You don't need a mask. Get that fresh air into your lungs and remember that life is to be lived, not endured.
