It was my birthday recently, and I thought "hey, this 'comissioning people to draw your stuff' thing seems fun" and lo! immediately I saw an awesome drawing by an artist I like a lot with an "I do comissions" link.

So.

Behold this wonderful drawing by @chechula!

This is a scene from the first chapter of "I lahorima anna (The unexpected gift)", my long-fic that I am currently trying to finish (part 2 drafted, part 3 in the making).

The 4 main characters meet all together for the first time and discuss their quest. Well, Rainel is discussing, the others are having various complaints XD (Rainel is the long-haired gal)

I am keeping the high-res to myself for now, until I finish the whole fic. Then I'll probably make some posts yapping about having finished, and post this art again and some details of the high-res. It's 11 mb. :)

Also I am getting the physical drawing too and I'll frame it and hang it in my bedroom! Ans probably post pictures of that too.

And when I updete part 1 (it gets some small fixes), the art is going to be part of it!

Also, I highly recommend Chechula!

she captured their personalities perfectly, I feel like I know my own characters better after seeing this art.

very nice to work with, communicative, fast replies, she sent me a sketch very quickly just to discuss her idea and another sketch later to ask for feedback.

Included all the feedback with no issues.

She took my unusual request of "take a look on my fic and choose a scene you like" with no problem, even though the fic had 45k words

Good pricing and she answered all my questions about it very clearly. also, no charging extra for the scene, despite it's not only the characters.

I would never have thought that it's possible to have 4 characters sitting around a table and show the faces of them all. I still suspect it's some kind of elven magic :D

My language intuition fails. What is 'last line'? Sentence? Paragraph? Because lines depend on screen size and such. I searched this game and some people post sentences, some paragraphs... OK. It is a short paragraph anyway, and spoiler-free.

From my long-in-the-working WIP which had spent 2 years stuck at 45k words before I was somehow able to continue working on it, and now it's at 147k words and growing.

“I don't think so, but, well, maybe I shouldn't be giving you advice on that. Anyway thank you. Very much. But if you change your mind it's fine too. I'll go get myself some of that cabbage thing.”

Vague spoiler-free context: Character A had long ago gotten a bunch of others including character B into a really bad situation which... ok let's just say that this situation still bites them. Character B had a lot of feelings about it (like: anger and such) and now due to recent events (soing a thing that was clearly forbidden) A is (as is assumed by them; I won't elaborate) soon going to have same kind of bad situation. And B is having complex feelings about it, including no longer being angry/upset/resentful at A, and assumes that this is a very selfish reaction (being comforted by the fact that A will suffer is selfish, right?), and this is generally character A replying to this

the worst thing an oc did is now not because of a pretty dress but because of a scholarship! yay! *adding more continuity about character's capabilities and habits

some grammar fixes

lore fix about the "elves do not forget stuff"

more continuity added for the following parts

some commas that shouldn't be commas changed to semicolons or colons or new sentences

replaced the Quenya names with the Quenya names with proper diacritics

replaced back all verbs that ended up ending with -Túring after the previous replacement

changed an expression because it sounded to me like a reference to That Certain Book even though it would not to anyone else, and I didn't want it in this place (maybe in some other)

reduced the number of "took a deep breath"

seriously i need to research how people emote and how emotions feel outside of just face + heart/breathing.

oh good to know i remembered these background characters wrong, they'll appear again soon

I remembered that "the whole X" is a phrase that exists, not just "all the X". my English bad. :(

Let the character sit more

The amount of cleaning blood from wood in this fic.... OK, it's not a lot of times, but still. I wish I had the magic cleaner they're using XD

Added more triggered behavior to a certain scene

"that’s in fact more of an ulterior excuse than a motive" how could i not love this character? [i wrote it and i wrote the character very non-canon but. anyway.]

Me writing my WIP: the vibes (like a moodboard but with words)

I really wish I could pull off the "you/thou" distinction here, but sadly I don't have the skill.

The mingling of dramatic irony and foreshadowing and the other kind of dramatic irony or whatever it's called, my beloved!

All kinds of siblings! Sibling drama! Written by someone who was an only child, so probably as wish-fulfillment-y and unrealistic as many romances XD

…I don't have to show the inciting incident, right? I may just leave it vague and "left for the reader to assume whatever makes sense to them"? Right? Right?

Anyway it's a fanfic, not a novel, I don't have to adhere to the rules like the length and structure of character arcs... Right?

Character deaths. Including "this was so stupid that you made Námo facepalm and ask what were you expecting to happen? and Vairë update her list of 'dumbest deaths literally ever' and now you're #1 on it", and "Not a major character, does not die in this scene, but still the scene would warrant a MCD warning all by itself".

Dumbest question ever! OK, maybe a lot of dumbest questions. But seriously, you could have at least asked literally anyone else literally anyone else you have access to, why this behavior was problematic. :🤣 [but seriously, my gal]

Also, promises. That… are not dumb, somehow?

Warning / ad / something? (about my WIP)

So, as I planned, I'm back to working on my WIP. Yay! (OK, I planned to finish it during Lent and I'm like... 5%? in the 2nd part, but at least I have a plan that now works.)

But whenever I have a day or two when I actually write, I get very hyped about it, and I will likely post about it. Posts will be tagged "#rvy" for short. Feel free to block if you don't like people hyping about their fics, or their unfinished fics (especailly the not yet shared part) or, you know. If you know, you know. :) I hope this tag is not used elsewhere, if it is, let me know and I'll make sure to tag the posts about it with the actual title too, but I am bad at tagging on phone, so I hope the short one will be enough.

I returned to writing I think. That's good.

Progress for today:

chapter 2 of part 3 is growing, i'm not sure if it'll be big enough, maybe i'll throw away more structure and marge ch2 and ch3

we have arrived in the apartment. and there are books. but the books are boring (no guns) [says the pov guy who'd spent a week or so secretly reading a book with no guns and it peaked his levels of all possible neurotransmitters in various order] but some of the books are math, and that's fun

one of my many beloved dialog lines which nobody will notice that's basically "yes i actually understand what you said and i know, now could we please not have this kind of conversation out right again" (generally i love characters talking in subtext. i love it way too much probably)

we're at 140k words, estimated length of whole fic is 180k to 200k

now for the infodump scene, and then we'll get to the more interesting stuff (drama!) and sometime later i'll add more stuff to this chapter probably.

and to the swordfight. there'll be an actual (= not sparring) swordfight!
