"What do you want, Jane? Come to gloat some more?"

"No, James. We aren't going to be able to make it tonight. Yes--I'm aware that it's my honor. Well, you'll just have to think of something, you're clever enough. Ashley has a fever and I'm quite certain Jane is coming down with the same thing though she won't admit it and I don't want to leave them here alone. Yes--yes. I will." Helen settled the phone back into the reciever as she shifted the baby from one hip to the other, flashing a wicked smile at her wife. "Well, he bought it. I've already had our lunch packed up. Shall we go?" Helen had been dreading the banquet she was meant to attend that afternoon. Not only because she disliked being made such a big deal, but because since Ashley's birth she hadn't been in the mindset of work and the idea of having to be anything more than a mother for an extended amount of time seemed far too tiring.

"Is that your subtle way of telling me to crawl backbetween your legs?"Helen would have gladly done whatever her lover's request was, but she was quite enjoying the way their bodies moved against one another's.
Nothing over the last nine months mattered now. Helen had come to understand why her wife had run away. She was scared, and if anyone could understand what fear was capable of doing to you it was Helen. The important thing was that she had found Jane in time to bring their daughter into the world and they were both healthy. Tired and a little thin for Helen's liking, but they were alive and home. She didn't know how long she had been sitting there cradling the baby in her arms, but she intended to allow her wife to rest as long as she needed to in order to recover from her ordeal, and she gladly spent this time bonding with their daughter. "Only two days old and you've already had more adventure in your lifethan most people ever dream of." She lifted her head as she saw movement from the bed, a smile stretching over her lips once it was clear that Jane was waking. "Just in time. I think someone is getting awfully hungry."

"I'll only be gone a few days at most." The doctor explained as she continued to pack the sensible suitcase set on the bed in front of her. She folded a pair of jeans as she turned to face her wife, offering a small smile in attempt to soothe any tensions there might have been about her leaving on this journey alone. "I hate to ask, but--can you make sure things stay in order here?"
(I can't know, but is it yours or my turn to answer the other thread?)
A note is left on Helen's desk: Helen, we should talk. -Jane
When Helen finally found Jane, she gave her a small smile. "Alright. You wanted to talk? Is everything alright?"
"Your present's going to be a bit late... 9 months late, so to speak." -Jane
"I...Jane...are you...?"
