{ follow me into the dark }`
Sometimes Haru hated himself for having such excellent hearing. If so, he wouldn't have heard the door creak downstairs and know he was no longer alone in the house.
Once upon a time, he would have been running down the stairs, greeting the individual who finally returned with a simple 'welcome home' that betrayed none of his excitement. He would never say 'I missed you', but it was there in his eyes. Now, Haruka felt nothing but exhaustion. He didn't want to get up, didn't want to walk downstairs and look into the eyes of the person he decided to despise.
The same person he also used to love with his entire heart.
It only took a few years for this person to wear away his love with countless infidelities. Cheating was one of Haru's boundaries, too. Once crossed, it should be a goodbye right away. Yet over and over this person has gotten away with it, because Haru couldn't ever stop his heart from softening when he begged.
"Welcome home," he said in a hollow voice once he went against his desire and rose from bed. He walked until he was half way down the staircase, just enough to see Rin Matsuoka. Haru stopped there, keeping his distance. "Dinner's in the fridge. I actually made steak for once. Because. You know." One of the stupid anniversaries they used to celebrate. Really, Rin mostly used it as excuse to get some meat in his fish filled diet.
"Save whatever you have to say for the morning, I don't want to look at you right now."
