there was a part of maxxie that was screaming at himself internally to not show up at brooks’ job unannounced. they haven’t spoken in exactly a week, which wasn’t unusual behavior for them considering how inconsistent they were, but it was long enough to have maxxie pull up and walk through the open garage of his shop, the sight of cars and the smell of gasoline prominent. he knew brooks was getting off at this time. he also knew he should have texted beforehand, but it was too late to go back now. his impulsive side got the better of him, as it usually did. he’s never been to brooks’ job during work hours, meaning he’s never been here when other people were around, only when it was just the two of them, and honestly, the looks from the other mechanics make him slightly uneasy, which is very unlike maxxie. he’s fully aware the glances thrown his way aren’t at all judgmental, but mostly curious as to who the fuck he is because of course, he doesn’t work here and it really fucking shows. it isn’t difficult to single him out – he’s easily the tallest one there.
walking up behind him, a purple fingernail taps on his shoulder. “ hi. ” he says cooly, a smile tugging at the corner of his lips. “ so i was going to text, ” he wasn’t, but it felt like the proper thing to say, “ but i was right around the corner, so i thought it was easier to just show up. ” he is so stupidly pathetic. this was maxxie’s way of saying that he missed him without actually saying it. a chuckle leaves his lips. “ the other mechanics behind me are staring, aren’t they? ” he scratches his blonde locks, practically feeling the eyes behind his back. he couldn’t blame people for being nosy anyway – it was new york, after all. maxxie also very clearly didn’t fit into this work vibe at all. baby faced, blonde, gel nails that simply couldn’t be tarnished by doing this kind of labor, his little collar sweater that screams clean boy aesthetic, it was all far too pristine and soft looking. “ i’ve got you something. you know, a late christmas gift. ” he shrugs, like it’s no big deal, when all he really wants is to be alone with this man and do shit that boyfriend’s do, while they both claim they aren’t boyfriend’s at all. he can’t help the smile that follows, his usual boyish grin. “ i can give it to you if your shift is already over. also, i’ve made a rather fantastic batch of birthday cake pops, if you’d fancy some of those too. ”
