Rookie defencemen Ryan Gottfried and Tyrel Bauer both notched their first career Western Hockey League goal on shots from the blue line, creating yet another memorable moment in their first season playing in the WHL.
Playing their Central Division rivals, Red Deer Rebels rookie defenceman Ryan Gottfried scored his first career WHL goal against the Medicine Hat Tigers to tie the game 1-1. After a pass from behind the net missed everyone in the slot, Gottfried was in the perfect position at the blue line to receive the pass, take a few steps in and score on a wrist shot.
Winning the puck on the draw right back to Tyrel Bauer on the blue line, Bauer took a wrist shot that found its way through traffic to Kamloops’ net. Bauer’s first career WHL goal and game-winning goal in a 5-2 finish against the Blazers earned him third stars honours for the game.
