Recent Writing & Words Online
This post is a round-up of four pieces by me that you can read or listen to online for the first time. Enjoy!
A LOVE LETTER TO PARKDALE
I wrote about the chaotic Toronto neighbourhood where I grew up and Ryan Tacay aka Phraction took a series of accompanying photos:
"Parkdale isn’t lovely in any conventional sense. It’s a beautiful mess of neon-bright colours, perpetual gridlock, people from all walks of life and social strata, graffiti art, garbage, crumbling brick, and grey cement."
The result is a million times stronger than the sum of its parts. This is part of a series in which Koffler X Neighbourhoods Project paired photographers with local writers to develop digital photo essays. READ IT HERE
POEM PODCAST
Taddle Creek magazine recorded me reading “Call Me Crabapple Girl,” a poem from my latest book Ghost Sick. It’s about Ashley Smith, a young girl with mental health issues who died in prison. Also, if you scroll down on the page, there are links to a few previously published pieces by me. LISTEN HERE
SPEAKING EVENT/RADIO PODCAST
On September 25, Queen’s held a welcoming event for me (I’m the writer-in-residence this fall). I spoke about my work and reading from both Ghost Sick and Not Your Ordinary Wolf Girl. Bruce Kaufmann recorded the whole event and aired it on his radio program. You can listen here: PART 1 and PART 2.
BRAND NEW POEM PUBLISHED
And last, but definitely not least, I wrote a new poem called “Learning from the Hands” (about my mother) and it has been published in the latest issue of One Throne Magazine (Dawson City’s premiere/only lit mag). READ HERE
