Activity 5
The Virginian State Government
Who I am? Who I represent?
The stakeholder that I represent is the Virginian State Government. The State government is primarily concerned with the how the pipeline is going to affect all the people living in Virginia.
What we want?
The Virginian government also wishes to balance the need for energy independence with protecting the environment. This means that even if the pipeline is going to benefit many people, if it is going to destroy too much the environment they will not support it.
Why is our vision best?
This is the best vision because it is a compromise between possible economic benefits for the State and people, and being responsible with the environment.

http://www.toptenz.net/top-10-invention-discovery-controversies.php
This article is about 10 discoveries and how there is controversy surrounding them. Some of the discoveries include, the discovery of Neptune, invention of calculus, and the invention of the telephone. These discoveries all were claimed to have been done by more then one person, this is why they are seen as controversial.
Specifically, for the discovery of Neptune the work done in the lab and the work done in the media had an impact on who ended up receiving most of the credit. The two scientists responsible for the discovery are John Couch Adams, and Urbain Le Verrier. In 1843 Adams was the first to hypothesis and that Neptune could be a new planet and he was the first to attempt to calculate it’s size and orbit. He thought that it might be a planet because he observed that something was having an effect on Uranus’s orbit. The only thing large enough to have a gravitational force big enough to effect another planets orbit would be a star or planet, but it was far to close to the Sun to be another star. Le Verrier launched his own independent investigation and made similar calculation to Adams’s with similar results. However both scientists had trouble gaining support for their search of the new planet. Eventually in 1846 Le Verrier sent his calculations to an observatory in Berlin, and that same day Neptune was discovered.
After its discovery there was controversy over who should get credit. Eventually the credit was shared between Adams and Le Verrier, but many in the field give more credit to Le Verrier due to the fact that his calculations were more accurate and were the ones used to discover the planet. Also Le Verrier put more effort in with his colleagues to attempt to encourage them to search for the planet.
What is science and how does it impact me, my family, my community, my generation, my nation, and my future?
Science is everything. The world revolves around science and it has an impact on every aspect of life. Personally science has had a huge impact on me it many ways. For example I am an ISAT major which involves many types of science. Science has always been one of my best subjects and now I study it in college. I love how you can use science to solve anything. I can still remember when, in elementary school, we had a guest scientist that did all of these silly experiments. My favorite was he had a small fire going on a table and when he threw some chemical into the flames it changed the color of the flames, as a kid this was basically real magic. To this day science still amazes. Science also has a big impact on my family. My mother and uncle both work for a company that sells engineering equipment. My mom does business with lots of manufacturing companies and sells them sensors that keep the workers safer and make sure the product is exactly what the people want. In regards to science and my nation and my future it is going to have a very large impact on both. In the future both oil and fresh water are going to run out and science is going to have to find solutions to those problems. Whether it is going to be a new form of energy or a way to efficiently and cost effectively make salt water fresh, science has to solve the problem or bad things are going to happen.
I invited my cousin George Zackman to follow my blog. He also likes science which is why I asked him to follow the blog.
