Gangasagar Ferry Timings
Gangasagar is considered to be the most popular pilgrimage destination in India where one could witness the union of the Holy Ganges River with the Bay of Bengal. To reach Gangasagar Island, one needs to take a ferry ride across the Muriganga River from Harwood point Lot Number 8 to Kachuberia.
Regular ferries start from around 4:00 AM to 11:30 PM daily depending upon weather conditions and tidal activities. Ferries need 30 to 45 minutes for their journey across the River. However, during the period of Gangasagar mela and Makar Sankranti Festival, lots of additional ferries and boats sail through almost throughout the day due to high number of pilgrims.
Visitors could continue towards Kapil Muni temple by using bus or car which will take 45 minutes' journey. It is better for visitors to travel in the morning to escape from the crowd.
It is recommended to carry ID card along with some necessities like drinking water and medications while traveling to Gangasagar. Ferry times could be changed based on low tide, fog, and unfavorable weather conditions; thus, travelers need to update the timing before traveling to Gangasagar Island.
