Now THAT is a Rybka!
Unlike my first attempt, I did this in a much more correct gauge this time. I still did some tweaks: I used the provisional cast on + knitting in the round method (which I found out about on TikTok), and I added extra knit rows between the purl “scales” for most of the body. Eyes are just iridescent-ish buttons from a local antique store. Cute AF.
This one is going to a younger relative who seems to love all the weird stuff Andy and I make. Like fish pouches.
The Rybka pattern is from Rat and Sea Witch.

I made (a version of) the Rybka pouch by Rat and Sea Witch!
I didn’t have the fingering/mohair combo they recommended, so I made the weird late-night call of knitting it with two strands of Malabrigo Sock, which resulted in some…… interesting gauge results. But I adapted as I went, and I think it came out really cute! (Even if the channel for the drawstring is massive, and gives it a big trout pout.)
I do LOVE the color combo, especially with the two strands. The green/yellow/purple feels very trout-y.
Normally the Rybka pouch is knit in two pieces and then crocheted/sewn, but some clever folks on Tiktok suggested doing a provisional cast on for the drawstring channel and then knitting it in the round for the body. This was absolutely the right call for me, since my weird gauge meant that I had to make a lot of row-by-row decisions on the fly, which would have been a huge pain to record and then try to replicate on the other side.
Plus, I had never done a provisional cast on before, so it was really cool to learn a new technique! It was a lot easier than I expected!
