it might be a bit of an inappropriate thought to be running through aejeong’s mind when she sees the younger girl, but in an odd way, it’s appropriate for the absolute terror that spikes through aejeong’s body as if she’s a marshmallow on campfire skewer. looking at sarang’s smiling face and gleaming, hopeful eyes makes aejeong tense up till she’s afraid her bones will snap.
sarang’s proved from the start to be a nice, sweet girl with high aspirations and even higher potential. but she’s proved time and time and time again that aejeong is the number one on her Prospective Idol Friends List . . . and aejeong is terrified of that fact. she’s aware that she’s being terribly rude to the poor girl everytime they interact— in fact, the last time they talked was at a special stage, and aejeong cringes at the memory of her own standoffishness and more-than-probable scowls. she knows she’s not who sarang thinks she is, and the idea that she might disappoint such a promising new idol kills her inside.
and of course, aejeong’s shyness is nothing to cough at in terms of why she’s so silent so often.
nevertheless, whether it’s a mix of shyness or nerves or just embarrassment at being caught in her apron at her mother’s cafe, bare-faced and stained with kimchi seasoning, aejeong feels the wires in her brain fizzle out. snap out of it, park aejeong! you’re a senior idol, and she just debuted! be friendly, be cool . . .
“oh . . . sarang-ssi, it’s you.” (cue a onceover that she meant to be approving of the girl’s loveliness today, but probably comes off as more apathetic. dammit.) “what brings you around here?”

Idol concept: Kaleidoscope has been aiming for a strong, bold concept for Illusionist, and while they want that for Sarang as a member of the group, it is far from her private personality. Sarang is always trying to fit into the predestined personality, trying to make up for it in shows she partakes in but she always seems better fit for Bliss’ cheery one rather than the badass one. Her true image is much cuter and sweeter than what’s been rumoured and she’s trying to fix this ever since she found out about her addition to the group. However, Sarang genuinely tries to improve how the public will see her and believes she can live up to the image envisioned for her.
Birth date and age: 94.02.14 ; 23
Company name: Kaleidoscope Records
Group Name (if applicable): Illusionist
Group Position (if applicable): Main vocal and lead dancer
Strengths: Singing has always been Sarang’s strong suit. No matter the genre or tone her voice always managed to go with the flow of the songs, hitting her highs and her lows and laughing at her cracks, she always trained hard in the subject and her harmonising has her standing out as a trainee. She has also started to write songs, but she is yet to perfect the skill. Keeping her dancing in mind, her stability is strong and she constantly pulls through even if her stamina is low. Her dancing was another thing she took seriously and she’s always found the complexity of the choreography easy to learn, however, her scattered mind keeps her from focusing enough to have her take the main position.
Weaknesses: Even though she did not enter the company under the skill, rapping is still something she tries to improve in simply because it’s in her nature. Her variety skills also take a backseat to her other strengths. Because of her softer personality, she doesn’t speak much until something of interest comes up and she often feels awkward in times where she should show off the group’s fierce image; which shows off how Sarang needs to work on keeping up Kaleidoscope’s ideal image for Illusionist’s. Also due to her disorganised self, Sarang typically finds it hard to concentrate if she has many things going. For example, she’d would try and dance but when singing she may make a left instead is right; she sees this as a big setback in her career that she’s trying to overcome.
Valentine’s Day, a treasured day for the Na family. The day they welcomed their daughter into the world, and what better way to celebrate such a joyous occasion then naming her “Sarang”, the word for “Love”. It was a surprise to her parents but they’ve cherished her ever since. And so Sarang grew up with everything she’d ever dreamed of given to her by her happily in-love parents and her protective older brother, they even spent every summer holiday in America. Her mother encouraged her to pick up musical talents, to which she picked violin and singing as her sport and her brother often joined her for dancing. Her dream was always to be an idol and her mother always cheered her on. For years she thought she could live in her fairytale world forever, but this was real life and she’d face harsh reality soon.
In her fantasy land at age 15, she had been having an enjoyable Sunday as usual. Singing class in the morning and dance at 4, everything had gone perfect so far. It wasn’t until she was skipping out of dance at 6 with her friends did she get the call that would wreck her world. Her mother had died from a fatal wound to the head. The following week had been horrible for her as her precious, perfect brother had been put to trial for her murder, the only “eyewitness” being her own father claiming to have seen him push her. Sarang didn’t believe a word of it but the judge did. She always believed her brother’s innocence, and with every visit to the prison her resentment for her father grew.
A year later she found out that her father had found out Minhyuk was gay and had hated him for it even though Sarang had just recently figured out she had a preference for women. She knew she could never come out to her father and found herself using her music as an escape. She wrote crappy songs, sung her heart out and danced hours and hours to keep her emotions at bay. Then on her 17th birthday her father admitted to lying about her brother’s “crimes”, telling the truth of her mother’s accidental fall, letting Minhyuk go free, just not back into their home. It was then and there that she came out to her homophobic father and he did not take it well. After the hours of screaming and shouting they spent, her father begrudgingly agreed into letting her stay until her upcoming 18th birthday and they put their yelling to rest.
Once she turned 18 she moved out of her far-from cosy home in Jeju, into a new environment, Seoul. Sarang was ready for a new mindset away from her toxic father, and into her new life in the city with her now free brother. Minhyuk encouraged her to continue her dancing and her singing, maybe even to pursue a job in the career. The newfound motivation she had from her brother and the major improvement she had gained from when she started newer classes in Seoul had her even more set on being an idol, there was nothing holding her back and the public Kaleidoscope auditions had just started. This was it, what she had been searching for ever since she had lost her mother; she had found something she truly loved to do: perform.
She tried and never gave up during her audition, this left her a top spot in the results at 3rd place and she got in to the company. Many goodbyes and a lot of heartfelt promises later she left her brother to embark on her new journey as a trainee, at the not-so-small age of 18. Once she had joined she was a contender for the new survival program to form the group, Bliss, but was denied participation due to her short trainee period at the time. However, she didn’t let this get her down, she knew she would debut at one point and being told she was going to be a part of Illusionist had her overjoyed. Finally, she would achieve her dream and make her mother and brother proud.
