Six Questions with Stephanie Tallevast
WHO motivates you? Creative people making their visions come to life. There are many ways to make your ideas real, and it is fascinating and inspiring to witness the creative process, beginning to end. Also, those who make a difference in the world. It is so easy to get caught up solely in our agendas, that when I see others contributing to the world and to their neighbors, I am reminded to be a part of that kind of greatness.
WHAT is your favorite thing about living in the Lowcountry? Our stage set! The beautiful Low Country environs are mysterious, grand, stately and venerable. I hope I never grow jaded to the allure of the natural beauty here.
WHEN do you feel most creative? In my studio, surrounded by our design library. We receive new samples weekly from different vendors and it's sometimes the creative springboard I need to add life to a project. Also, if I've steeped a while in original art at a museum, gallery or artist's studio, I am spurred to create. WHERE do you look for inspiration? Everywhere. I'm always looking for an interesting texture, color combination or repetitive pattern. In nature, architecture, graphic design. That's why I love Instagram! People are posting everyday inspirations from discoveries, large and small.
WHY do you love what you do? Interior design to me is a creative composition, incorporating color, texture, spatial relationships, light and function. It's always a challenge to complete a space that is balanced and visually appealing as well as works for those who live in it. But it's always so rewarding to see a finished design. I also love collaborating with my clients and assisting them to achieve their design goals.
HOW do you local? I appreciate local artist and artisans and incorporate their work in my designs. It's nice for interiors to reflect surroundings with original pieces from regional creators.
With my family, I enjoy the simple pleasures of The Low Country: shopping Saturday mornings at The Forsyth Farmers Market, bike riding on Bluff Drive, and summer afternoons at Tybee.
