The rain poured down in the city that day, almost as if the skies were crying for what was to come. Hayley didn’t think much of it, but she felt a pain so great, the depth of this pain ached her bones, and chilled her core. She needed to refocus her thoughts, even here in this house they swarmed her mind and he was everywhere. Ever since Hayley met Klaus, their connection had always seemed off. Even if their hearts seemed to be attached to something more than anyone could attest to - whether good or bad. But Klaus was just a one night stand and she knew to him, she meant nothing. But Elijah, in the few short days that she had spent with him, there was something greater there, something Hayley has truly never felt with or for anyone.
Now, stars gleamed through some of the clouds as the rain turned to a drizzle. As Hayley stared out into the darkness of the night, she heard footsteps, heels clicking against the wooden floor of this old mansion. Rebekah approached and walked over to the table where the old Whiskey sat with two empty glasses. The truth was, Hayley was tired of hearing the lectures about how she needed to stay close and not run off to the Bayou whenever she pleased. Whatever her reasoning, Hayley just felt a strong connection with the people there. She sighed heavily, this time though, Rebekah didn’t say anything, instead she poured two glasses and walked out of the room. One was probably for Klaus. Elijah was still missing, and Hayley had a feeling Klaus knew where his older brother had gone, but unbeknownst to the others, Klaus had staked Elijah.
Hayley wrapped her arms around herself as she continued to stare out the window, watching the continued rain fall. This pregnancy scared her, being in this house without Elijah and the promise that he’d protect her scared her. She just didn’t understand how he could leave and not say anything, to either of them, but mostly to her. In these few short days since Elijah’s disappearance, Hayley has been attacked numerous times and no longer feels safe without him around. Slowly, her hand falls to her stomach as she looks down.
College AU | When a fire alarm leads to a new friendship and a borrowed blanket is returned with much more than you bargained for.
Part One | Part Two | Part 2.5 | Part Three | Part 3.5 | Part Four | Part 4.5 | Part Five | Part Six: Finale
A heavy course load is your excuse for being so absent from the group. You avoid their hang out sessions at all costs, always coming up with some reason why you can’t attend. There’s no doubt that Jimin told Taehyung about the sweater incident, the latter hounding you with questions that you refuse to answer. Taehyung eventually gives up with his interrogations, never getting anything out of you, and you’re sure he and Jimin have already come to their own conclusions (that probably aren’t too far off from the truth).
You’re spending more time at the library or cafes, just to get away from your dorm where you’re more likely to run into the boys, or more specifically one boy in particular. Walking between classes, you stay extra alert, especially each time you have to pass through the science tech building and with your focus solely on avoiding Jungkook, you don’t notice the guy you pass by as you exit the building.
“Y/N?” The voice calls and it feels like all your blood runs cold.
You’re only two steps down the stairs and can’t possibly get away with pretending you didn’t hear him. You’re reluctant, to say the least, as you turn to meet eyes with the guy who stands in the doorway; the girl he’s with holds open the door as if they were about to enter and looks between you two.
“I thought it was you,” he muses in a condescending tone that’s too familiar.
“What do you want?” you ask irritated that you’re standing here, in front of your ex-boyfriend who you had the unpleasant misfortune of seeing less than a month earlier. The year was already off to a rough start, you don’t have time to be standing here chit chatting with a man you despise.
“Woah, calm down,” he says, “I can’t just say hi?”
“Why are you even here?” you rudely ask, unable to keep your composure.
“I’m here to see my girl, you have a problem with that?” And as always, he turns it around on you, as if you were the one who called out to him and ruined his day.
“Oh, and is this your girlfriend or your side chick?” you question in mock naivety.
The girl behind him looks like she wants to say something, and normally you wouldn’t be so blatantly bitchy to someone you just met, but being around your ex just brings out the worst in you.
“Is that jealousy I hear?” he quickly retorts.
“You wish, now, if you’re done, can I go?” you boredly ask although your blood is boiling.
“Running away like always I see,” he comments and it’s as if he knows exactly which buttons to push to get you worked up.
“Honestly, what do you want from me?” you sigh in frustration. “Can’t you just leave me alone? I don’t care why you’re here, just pretend you don’t know me next time.”
“Now you’re going to tell me what I can and can’t do?” he responds and you literally feel like you’re losing brain cells standing here.
Before you can respond, you feel someone behind you and the scent you’ve so badly been avoiding is just mere inches away from you and you don’t need to turn around to know who it is.
“She said to leave her alone. Can’t you be man enough to respect that and just fuckin’ go,” Jungkook all but snarls as he comes up next to you. His jaw is clenched, hands balled into fists, and there is nothing but hostility in his eyes as he stares down the man just a few feet away.
Your ex is about to say something, but the girl he’s with holds him back, probably scared for her own life with the way Jungkook is staring at them. She tugs on his arm and quietly says something to him, his eyes flicker from Jungkook to you, and then back to Jungkook, before he swallows his words and turns on his heel. Honestly, you’re grateful for her, you’re not sure you’d be able to hold Jungkook back if things got out of hand, and frankly, you don’t think you would want to.
Once they’re out of sight, Jungkook turns to face you and the rational thing to do would be to thank him, but you’re feeling so many emotions and this is the first time you’ve seen him since the sweater incident, so instead you lash out at him without even thinking.
“What the hell Jungkook!” you practically scream at him. “I can handle my own problems. I don’t need you butting in always trying to save the day!”
“Y/N…”
“No, just stay out of my business,” you spit at him with so much resentment in your tone that it leaves a bitter taste on your tongue.
You expect him to say something, say anything, but instead he looks at you with the same anger in his eyes and he storms off without another look in your direction before you can take back your words. You stand there dumbly, cursing yourself for reacting the way you did and all you want to do is crawl in a hole and never come out.
//
Forgetting all about his class he was on his way to, Jungkook jumps into his car, slamming the door too hard and he drives off at lightning speed, mad, hurt, and mostly confused.
“I fucked up,” are Jungkook’s first words, instead of a regular ‘hello’ that comes after knocking on a door.
“Please God, please don’t let some poor soul be pregnant with Jungkook’s child,” Seokjin prays, looking up for dramatic effect as he moves aside to let Jungkook into the apartment.
“Stop joking, this is serious,” Jungkook huffs when he kicks off his shoes and walks passed him.
Seokjin raises an eyebrow at him as he follows him into the living room. “Getting a girl pregnant is serious too.”
“Jungkook got someone pregnant?” Namjoon asks, poking his head out of his room. “You owe me 20 bucks, Jin.”
“What? No! And 20 bucks? Do you guys have some kind of bet about if I’ll get someone pregnant?” Jungkook asks, obviously offended.
“Not if, when,” Namjoon corrects as he comes into the living room as well.
“Seriously?!” Jungkook exclaims, looking back and forth between Seokjin and Namjoon dumbfounded.
Seokjin simply shrugs at that. “It’s bound to happen at some point.”
“I plan on having kids once I’m married, thank you very much,” Jungkook sternly responds.
“That’s the thing about unexpected pregnancies,” Seokjin says, “they’re not planned.”
“Ugh, why did I think coming here was a good idea,” Jungkook grumbles, getting frustrated.
“We’re just joking, kid. What’s up?” Namjoon asks, taking a seat on the recliner.
The youngest releases a long sigh, slumping down on the couch as he tries to collect his thoughts. “I did something and I thought it was the right thing to do, but I guess it wasn’t? Now I just ruined things even more and I don’t know what to do.”
Seokjin looks at him, taking in how distraught Jungkook seems and all jokes are put aside. “What exactly did you do?” he asks, needing more information before he can come to a conclusion.
“You know Y/N’s ex?” Jungkook questions, earning a ‘uh...no,’ from both Seokjin and Namjoon. “Ugh, you guys are so out of the loop.”
“If this is about Y/N,” Namjoon begins, “why didn’t you go to Tae or Jimin, they spend a lot more time with her than we do.”
“That’s exactly why I can’t go to them! They’re too close to her,” Jungkook explains, still worked up. “Okay, whatever. All you need to know is that her ex is a dick.”
“Are those her words or yours?” Namjoon inquires.
“Jimin’s technically, but that’s not the point, everyone agrees that he’s an asshole,” Jungkook responds and Namjoon accepts it with an unsure nod, but doesn’t press any further. “Anyways! I just ran into them and he was being an ass to Y/N and it was getting really heated so I pretty much told him to fuck off, and then she got mad at me! And to make things worse, I didn’t know what to do or say after so I just fuckin’ walked away! This is the first time I’ve spoken to her in weeks and I fucked it up!”
“Wait, why haven’t you been talking to her?” Seokjin questions for both him and Namjoon.
“I don’t fuckin’ know! One day everything’s cool and then the next she’s avoiding me like the plague,” Jungkook replies, just getting more and more frustrated.
“Did you do something to offend her?” Namjoon asks, trying to make sense of everything.
“I don’t think so?” he says unsurely. “Like, we both stayed at Yoongi’s until break was over, but that was literally the last time I saw her. She doesn’t come to his place anymore but apparently she’s still hanging out with Tae,” Jungkook huffs.
“Well her and Taehyung are like best friends forever or some bullcrap, so...” Seokjin pipes up, earning a blank stare from Jungkook for focusing on the less important details.
“And you really didn’t do or say anything to upset her beforehand?” Namjoon asks, staying on topic.
“I honestly don’t think so, I got her a Christmas present and even took care of her when she was drunk!”
“Maybe she feels awkward around you,” Seokjin offers.
“Jin’s right,” Namjoon says in agreement. “You guys haven’t gotten along once since you first met, but now all of a sudden you’re being nice to her? She’s probably confused.”
“Do you like her?” Seokjin finally asks, and it’s a question Jungkook knew was coming.
Jungkook is quiet for a moment, he contemplates brushing off Seokjin’s words and lying through his teeth, but that’s probably useless at this point. “Yeah… I do…” Jungkook quietly admits.
Suddenly Seokjin is jumping up onto his feet, “haha!” he exclaims, his attention on Namjoon, “pay up!”
“What the fuck?” Jungkook says sounding offended.
“I didn’t think you’d admit it so easily,” Namjoon honestly replies while reaching for his wallet in his back pocket.
“Do you guys bet on my entire life?” Jungkook questions disgruntled.
“Don’t flatter yourself, we bet on all the guys,” Seokjin nonchalantly answers as he counts the money Namjoon handed him in singles.
“Anyways, just talk to her. Go for coffee or something and tell her everything you just told us,” Namjoon advises.
“... I don’t even have her number,” Jungkook says, feeling defeated.
“If I give you her number, will you stop moping around?” Seokjin asks.
“What? I haven’t been moping around!” Jungkook defends.
“That’s not what Hoseok told us,” Seokjin muses, having heard from the boy who lives closest to Jungkook that he hasn’t been doing too hot.
Once Jungkook gets your number from Seokjin (feeling slightly jealous that he’s probably the only one in the group who you didn’t willingly give your number to), he bids them goodbye and leaves the apartment with a new determination.
-
Taking Namjoon and Seokjin’s advice, Jungkook swallows his pride and dials your number. It’s been about a day and a half since he ran into to you and had a less than pleasant exchange with you. He’s had time to clear his head and think things through, forming his words carefully in his head before he even tries them out on you, except he doesn’t take one thing into consideration. The phone rings once, twice, and his heart feels like it’s lodged in his throat, three times, and he can barely swallow his nerves.
“Hello?” your voice is clear through the line and his heart skips a beat at the sound.
“Y/N, hi,” Jungkook says, but before he can say anymore, the line goes dead.
He’s not sure how long he stands there, numbly holding the phone to his ear with the dial tone beeping loudly as if mocking him. And even when he hangs up, the sound echoes in his ears, a sound of rejection and heartbreak.

“Y/N, pack a bag, you’re going skiing with us,” Taehyung announces when you open the door and invite him in.
“What?” you question when you join him on the living room floor where he’s now sprawled out across.
Laying on his stomach, propped up on his elbows, he looks up at you innocently with his chin resting on his palms. “You have the honour of going skiing with us! So start packing, we leave tomorrow.”
“Tomorrow?!” you gawk at him. It’s already the third week of February, which is approaching the middle of the term. You have a week off, reading week or study break as it’s called, to prepare for upcoming mid-term exams and assignments, but like Taehyung suggests, most people use it as vacation time. You were hoping to use the excuse of homework to completely avoid seeing the guys, especially Jungkook considering how you two last left things. “I don’t think I can go,” you tell Taehyung.
“Bullshit,” Taehyung responds, “you have no excuse not to come. Don’t say money is the problem because I’m covering everything. And you can’t spend 3 days of the week with us and do assignments later?”
“I-,” he’s talked you into a corner, but you won’t give up that easily. “I really can’t go, this semester has been really tough and I need the time to study.”
It’s like a switch flips and all of a sudden he’s whining like a child. “Y/N, pleaseeeeeeeeee. You never play with us anymore! Just come on this trip with us.”
“I’m sorry, Tae. I really appreciate the offer, but I just can’t,” you try, not letting his puppy eyes get to you.
Instead of giving you a response, he pouts his lips and pulls out his phone. You assume he’s just being a brat and ignoring you so you direct your attention to the TV that has been playing in the background. A moment passes before your phone begins to vibrate against your thigh and you pull it out of your pocket to see the screen lit up with Yoongi’s name.
“Hello?” you answer, feeling confused since Yoongi isn’t one to make phone calls and usually communicates with you through texts.
“You’re going with us tomorrow. We leave at noon so make sure you’re ready by then. You’ll be in my car with Taehyung and Jimin, so meet us in the garage or else I’ll send them upstairs to get you. Make sure you pack enough for 3 days and 2 nights,” Yoongi informs you, not giving you a chance to respond before the line goes dead.
You simply put the phone down and look over at Taehyung who sits there gleaming up at you. “So I’ll see you tomorrow?” he questions, his voice giddy.
“Do I have a choice?” you grumble.
“Nope, we’ve never disobeyed Yoongi, so I can't say what’ll happen if you’re the first to do it.”
You know there’s no getting out of this and your look of defeat is enough for Taehyung. He scampers towards you and throws his arms around you, both of you toppling over with the force.
“Make sure you dress warm!” he exclaims, planting a kiss on your cheek before jumping back up onto his feet. “See you at noon!” and with that he’s out the door.
Reluctantly, you go to your room and begin to pack a duffel bag with the essentials you’ll need for the overnight trip. Your mind is a mess and your heart feels heavy, dread and anxiety looming over you with what’s to come. Ski lodges are big, you convince yourself, there’s nothing to worry about, there’s lots to do and the other 6 boys to occupy your time, you won’t have to spend time with Jungkook, right? Wrong.
