Anywhere I would have followed you.

There are things he can do and can’t do.
Even with magic at his disposal he can’t cure cancer. Stiles wishes he can, he got here after all, so he should be able to, right ? But just like he had no way to safe his mother or later on his father, he could do nothing for her.
He watched her die, watched the impact it made on the small family, and his heart broke for them, for the two boys clinging to each other, and maybe even a bit for the broken man that would soon turn into a monster.

" GET THE FUCK OUT OF MY HOUSE. " A sharp slap and the tall man crashed into the wall behind him, looking up at the young man in front of him with a mix of fear and pure rage.
Stiles didn’t stop or leave though, he stepped clsoer instead, crouching down in front of the man, knife at the others throat. ” No. I am not leaving. Not until you finally listen to me. Your boys will be out for another few hours, so we have all the time in the world. “
The father makes to get up but a hit against his chest and the pressure of the cold blade has him still, looking up at the intruder with wide eyes. ” What do you want ? ” He presses out and Stiles can smell the alcohol on his breath, is reminded of his own father in the wake of his mothers death. They are not so different in their early stages, only that Isaac’s father never managed to get himself back together the way John Stilinski had.
" You, Mister Lahey, have two wonderful sons. Wonderful sons that will grow into brilliant man. Isaac is but a boy, and Camden is not old enough to face the world alone yet either. You will not take your grief out on them. Or anyone else. You will be a great father. You will raise them so that your wife would be proud of you and them. Don’t ruin your memory because you are angry at the world. It’s not your children’s fault that she died. " Stiles sneers and he is angry, wants to hurt the man so badly, but he hasn’t done anything too bad yet, he can still change, and if he hurts the guy it might all go wrong, he might ruin Isaacs life instead of making it better.
He leaves then, simple as that.
But he checks in again and again in the first weeks. He watches them, and makes sure that Mister Lahey knows it, is aware of it until it seems the man has finally gotten himself together, until there is no threat to Isaac’s happiness anymore for now.

It’s loud. It’s loud and bloody and hot and it is not even half as bad as he is used to. Maybe it’s a weird thing but fights with the supernatural seem so much more real and horrifying than this game of Risk in the middle of the desert.
People around him were traumatized and crying in their sleep, had lost limbs and friends, but Stiles feels as if that had been happening all of his life, and it’s almost calming with how familiar it is.

You can’t change another persons will.
At least not with magic, not full, not - Let’s just say there were a lot of restrictions and conditions and after effects if you tried and Stiles didn’t want to do any damage.
But he knew he couldn’t just stay here forever, that his time was running out. What he did didn’t come without a price after all.
But there was still one thing he had to do .
Safe Camden Lahey’s life.

Officially he has been missing in action, but usually things like that meant death. So Stiles did everything he could, most of it not very legal, to stay at the mans side with every mission they did and even in their free time.
He knew that the others thought him a bit weird, he never talked, always just writing in his journal or keeping close to them. He tried to protect them, even tried to teach them a thing or two when he felt the need, but after that he would stay away, never engaging in any free time activities.
They probably thought he was just there for the fight, or one of those that felt like they had to prove themselves after a traumatic past. He had met people like that here, but no matter how often they asked, Stiles would never open up.
If it got too much he would just hide away with his journal, telling people about his day and life that had died in the future, trying to imagine that they were watching over him right now.

" LAHEY GET BACK. " Stiles wasn’t sure if the other heard him, the last explosion had been so loud they were probably all half dead right now.
The man didn’t move though, seemed to be stuck or frozen in fear, he couldn’t really see it from where he was standing.
The rest of their team was already retreating, it was only the both of them still here in the midst of burning vehicles and black corpses, and he knew it wouldn’t be too long before someone would try to make them join the latter ones.
" Lahey come. " He calls out again, pulling at the man, not looking back at him as he drags him away. They were getting closer to the others if they could just -
He noticed the widening in Lahey’s eyes, and it was an automatic reaction to throw himself in front of him, being thrown forward by the force of the hit.
Everything went white with pain for a moment, and he could feel himself being dragged along, but he was already aware that he wouldn’t make it. Looking up, he saw the grimy face of Camden above him, some other soldier having come to help him.
Camden was alive. He seemed hurt in the shoulder, Stiles seemed to have been unable to shield him completely, but he was alive. He could return to Isaac.
Even the darkness that pulled him in now.
