Science Saturday: Entomology Wall Chart

This Saturday we are highlighting another early 20th century entomology wall chart depicting beetles and larvae, including: Longhorn beetle (Cerambycidae), Devil's coach horse beetle (what a name! Scientifically known as Ocypus olens) Click beetle (Elateridae), larva of Ground beetle (Carabidae), and Glowworms.

The illustrations are by S. Abrahamsen and the chart was mounted and sold by Denoyer-Geppert Company in Chicago, which still sells scientific models and wall charts. This chart is a part of a collection of over 100 scientific wall charts in Special Collections.

Science Saturday: Entomology Wall Charts

This Saturday we are highlighting two early 20th century entomology wall charts. The first depicts various beetles from the order Coleoptera: Golden flower beetle (Cetonia aurata), Stag beetle (Lucanus cervus), Lady-bird beetle (Coccinella septempunctata), Dung beetle (Anoplotrupes stercorosus), Rhinoceros beetle (Dynastinae), and Burying beetle (Nicrophorus interruptus). The illustrations are by S. Abrahamsen and the chart was mounted and sold by Denoyer-Geppert Company in Chicago, which still sells scientific models and wall charts.

The second wall chart depicts the anatomy of several insects. The center image is an illustration of a dissected beetle, but other various parts of insects are shown such as the foot of a fly, and the heads of a butterfly and a bee.  

These charts are a part of a collection of over 100 scientific wall charts in Special Collections.
