OC doodle dump pt 1
He can’t see the dash, yet he looks away.
“how terrible it is, to love something that death can touch.”
Finally got inspired to work on some of these prompts, so here’s a couple of archangels having a chat.
“A mortal, huh?”
Lucifer wrinkled her nose. “Oh, you don’t have to sound so condescending. Haven’t you ever fallen in love with a mortal?”
Gabriel watched her, wide blue eyes unblinking. Even though he’d been moving from mortal body to mortal body for years (this time it was the body of a young Black man, his dreads tied back and streaked with indigo) he’d not quite mastered the proper ticks of mortals.
“No,” he said. “They die too quickly.”
“Well, this one’s not a normal mortal. She’s got some time.”
“No, but that’s worse.”
“Why?”
“Our magic washes right off of her. She could kill you, and you couldn’t defend yourself.”
“But she wouldn’t.” She cuddled into his side. He sighed and put an arm around her, watching the object of her attentions, the Defenders girl, as she ran through an exercise with one of the others of her generation.
After a moment, he pressed the issue again. “She’s not mated to you,” he said flatly. “Why bother?”
“Now, brother, I know you’ve been with jinigii who you’re not mated to, myself included.”
He snorted. “You’re acting like she is. You’re falling over yourself to get on your good side. Do you know how embarrassing you look?”
“As if you’re any better. I hated how you’d drool over Uriel. It’s been billions of years, Gabriel! When are you going to lose the spark?”
“Never. That’s another thing; you’re going to lose interest in her. If you two were mated, that’s not a problem.”
“When have I ever been long term?”
“You know what? With the...devilry you pull, I don’t think you’ve ever thought ahead in your entire life.”
“Ooh, puns. There’s your sense of humour. I thought it was lost with your old body.”
He smiled stiffly. “Trust me, I always have something or another just for you.”
She grinned at him. “Because I’m your favourite.”
He snorted again, but this time he pressed his nose to her forehead. “Sa’taan, you will and have always been my second favourite. Just don’t get hurt. It’s hell, you know, loving someone who death can take so easily.”
