Goldlink- Live at SOB’s 6/11

You know it’s going to be a dope ass party when ANTM contestant and Desigual model Winnie Harlow is in line. She’s stunning as is the rest of the crowd; Boho Manhattan chic, which is largely more upscale than Brooklyn chic. Short little black and white dresses and perfectly coiffed tresses fill the dance floor while a DJ puts on some slower break beats. It’s foggy and energy is buzzing.  Rap is a great addition to the indie scene, and after killing it at Rough Trade last week, Goldlink takes the stage. He’s adorable and stylish, but most impressive is his speedy vernacular; throwing down high flying verses fast as lightning. He puts on a lively set, gliding stage left and stage right with panache. Goldlink’s DJ is a prize accomplice; keeping the crowd excited with charismatic old-school r&b hits and making sure the dance party continues through the night.  I love how Goldlink has grabbed the steering wheel to the bandwagon of our decade; Dance Rap is now super mainstream, but Goldlink finds a way to make it his own and keep it fresh while remaining alternative. He’s the next big thing and I’m honored to have attended the party was most likely his last intimate show.
