C/w: fluff, Fem!Reader
T/w: angst, mentions of blood, mentions of death, mentions of illness.
A/n: This one was fun to write. I got a little creative with the info from the manga but don’t worry it only a small spoiler won’t ruin the manga.
Word count: 2.4k
P.S: This story does have a plot but if you skip to the first line the mini headcanons start with a somewhat large about of plot and if you skip to the second line there are some short headcanons.

Let us take a moment of silence for your Ohagi and feelings…
To start us off your first true encounter with him that wasn’t training was somewhat out of character from how he would act during training.
During Hashira training you visited all the Hashira, but of the Hashira you trained with the one you struggled with the most was with Shinazugawa.
His training was just a simple striking exercise where you’d attack him… seems simple enough right?
NO! striking him was just the cherry in top.
Not only did you have to strike at him, but you also had to actually hit him, dodge him, dodge your other flying comrades who were thrown by him, blows to the gut or leg, and try not to get a sword to the eye.
Each session was worse than the last.
Most sessions would end with you coughing up blood then passing out, waking up in the infirmary with others, a Kakushi at you bedside ready to take you back a soon as you regained consciousness.
This was what had happened every day and night from almost 2 months.
By the end of the training when you’d finally passed with him, you’d broke 3 ribs, your ankle twice, forearm once, dislocated your jaw once, dislocated your shoulder, and broke 4 fingers.
What fun you had <3 -_-
The only good that came out of the training would’ve been the friends.
You ended up spending a lot of time with the Kakushi who was assigned to you.
Every morning he would bring you some Ohagi from the mansion kitchen as a sorry for having to take you right back to Shinazugawa’s makeshift hell.
One day you had decided to ask him who was the person who made all of those delicious treats.
“Oh, the Ohagi was made by my sister.”
“Your sister? Your both... part of the demon slayer crops?”
“Uh-well, when we were younger my father was never around, and it took a toll on my mother causing her to get sick due to stress. Soon after that she died, and it was just my sister, brother and I.”
“If you don’t mind me asking, where is your brother now?”
“He’s dead. He took care of me and my sister when no one else would. We soon found out he was dead when a boy with a checkerboard Haori came to us with my brother’s tan haori folded up. He told us that he died from a demon attack in a place called Tsuzumi Mansion. He also said that ‘Only if he’d gotten there sooner things might’ve changed.’ He offered for my sister and I to join him on his journey to a place where we could go and be safe, an so we did.”
“My condolences”
“It’s okay. If it weren’t for me following that boy, I wouldn’t be here now feeling safer than ever and talking to you.”
He smiled at you, and you smiled back.
Once the two of you got to the mansion’s kitchen everything got twisted…
You found his sister, but he couldn’t join you to say hello because he was still on duty.
She knew who you were from the little things he told her, and she gave you a cloth filled with Ohagi.
“It’s mostly just smooth paste but I threw in a couple of chunky paste ones in case you had someone you wanted to share it with.”
You bowed and she gave you a smile.
“Feel free to visit me and Furachi again.”
“I will.”
You walked towards a bamboo forest where you ate lunch most afternoons before you had gotten into the Hashira training.
Sitting down on the ground, you laid out your lunch and the ohagi, Moegi made for you.
Before you could even take a bite of ohagi, you were interrupted by a guy with white-haired, pale purple eyes, a green and white katana, with scars all over his body…can you guess who it was????
“WHAT ARE YOU DOING HERE?!”
“…Eating?”
“WHY ARE YOU EATING IN MY BAMBOO FOREST?!”
“Your bamboo forest-…”
“What the hell are you trying to pull here?
“…”
“First you take almost 2 months to pass my classes, then you come onto my property, then you become friends with my Kakushi, then have the audacity to go to my kitchen to have ohagi made.”
“I’m sorr-“
“For crying out loud you don’t even have green tea to go with it-“
“Wha-“
“Here.”
He handed you a thermos. Once you took off the lid, the steam emitted from it. Taking the top of the lid and setting it down, you poured some of the liquid into it then took a sip. It was fresh green tea, and it was a damn good one at that.
From that point on you two would meet in the bamboo forest every evening when the sun was a quarter way from setting.
As you spent more and more time with him, it felt as though you could understand him and relate to him in some way and being able to understand someone as mysterious as him made you feel a sort of attraction to him that you just couldn’t put your finger on.
You two got to learn a lot about each other when you two had late lunch together.
Most of the time you two would talk about how your days went, what your plans were for the rest of the night, and food.
You wouldn’t say that he was a talkative person but when he talked about topics that angered him (which was just about everything), he would go on a rant about all the things wrong with it.
One time when the two of you were talking about desserts, you brought up the topic of Dango and he went of about how it was so cute, and the tri color setup was unneeded.
But one day when you were heading over to Gyomei’s place which was basically the same route if you were going to Sanemi’s you saw him in the bamboo forest setting up something.
You decided to delay your plans for Gyomei since you were only going to ask for help with some endurance training.
As you walked down the stone path, you saw Sanemi. He was set out a silver dish, two tea cups, and a letter.
It was somewhat hard to really see what he was doing but you could figure out what the things were from a distance.
Getting fairly close to him, yet he hadn’t noticed you. Due to Obanai’s training you self-consciously used stealth in everything you did. Your presence was hidden, your steps were quiet, and your movements were straight to the point, ‘no unnecessary actions’ was one thing that Obanai always emphasized when you trained with him. Now it was like second nature to live by those words.
One thing you noticed was that Sanemi was very focused on whatever it was he was doing. If it weren’t due to that fact, he would’ve noticed you by now.
It took you sneezing for him to notice you… he looked flustered but in an angry way?
He turned in the opposite direction and put his arm over his eyes then turned back to you.
As you got to him your assumptions were correct. It really did look like he had set up some sort of dinner but for two but who was the other person?
It was evening time and the two of you only had lunch together in the late afternoon/ early evening. Once it was officially evening Sanemi would vanish into thin air without a trace. So, most of your evening were spent honing your skills with the few Hashira you’d became friends with.
You two weren’t dating yet you felt betrayed by his actions.
“Who’s this for?” You asked him slightly annoyed but masked it with a smug grin.
“You’re fucking up my plans.”
“Ouch~, I thought we were friends Sanemi T>T. I’ll take my leave then since I’m just getting in the way of your plans.”
“…”
You turned and started walking up the stone path, tears filling your eyes but never really streaming down your face, just gathering in your eyelashes.
“Wait...” he said under his breathe
You didn’t hear him and continued to go up the steps.
“Damn it, I SAID WAIT!”
His voice sent a shiver down your spine. His voice was loud, yet it was quite enough that only you and a few Kakushi could hear him. You froze up then slowly turned towards him. His face changed from annoyed to scared and concerned.
You were crying and the thought of you crying because of him, his actions, and insecurities made him scared. As he walked up the stone steps to you he began to speak…
“It’s for…uh-“
“…”
“It’s for us.”
“Us…?”
“Yes, ‘Us’.”
“o///o”
“I, uh, I wanted to do something for you, uh no I mean for us, and I thought maybe just making food for the two of us would be a good idea…o///o”
“Good idea…? Idea for what...”
“x///x”
“Are you trying to-“
“Never mind, if you can’t use your brain for something other than complaining and put two and two together to figure it out then that is that.”
He turned around, starting to ready himself to walk back down the steps. Fists tight, nails cutting deeply into the palm of his hands, anymore pressure and he was sure to draw blood.
“Sanemi, look at me please.”
As stubborn as he was, it seemed the only person he’d every take order from were you. Even though he couldn’t look you in your eyes all this time he brought himself too just this once. He was scared. He was scared that if he fell any harder for you, you would just be taken from him just like his mother and siblings were.
He feared that if you were to be with him till the end, the end would come sooner than it needed to. He wants to keep you safe, but he worries that if one day the time came that you needed his help, he wouldn’t make it in time to protect you. He doesn’t want to get attached to you, but he fears that he might’ve already.
It felt as though he was shrouded in darkness, deep in an abyss of his deepest darkest thoughts, his fears, worries, and the things he never wanted to remember, yet when he thought of you getting hurt it torn him down deeper. The darkness of the abyss would be paradise compared to his mental state at this very moment. The feeling was similar to drowning but there was no water. The air felt toxic. The smallest inhale of it and it would surly cause him to have a panic attack.
He felt like he would get himself killed on purpose if he were to see you get killed right in front of his eyes because he couldn’t make it in time. He wants to be with you, but he can’t bring himself to accept that he could keep you safe, how could he when he could even keep his mother and siblings safe. He’s pushed away everyone even his own brother so he wouldn’t have to suffer the pain of loosing someone he cared for again. Yet he couldn’t deny the fact that he was without a doubt in love with you.
His worries dissipate for only a few mere moments but those few moments left him filled with hope. You, you kissing him left him feeling like he could help you when the time came. It left him feeling like he could protect you.
As you pulled back, all you wanted to do was dive in for seconds, but you allowed him to collect his thoughts.
“Sanemi-”
Sanemi was all you could get out before he leaned to kiss you again. This time the kiss was more passionate. It was a kiss filled with more emotions than any you’d ever received before. His hands were on waist, and you had one hand on his chest and the other on his cheek.
It seemed as though this kiss was starting to become more lust filled than passionate by the second. Your tongues entangled around each other, you two pulled back for a quick breath. A string of saliva being the only thing keeping you two connected.
After this the two of you went to somewhere secluded and private and I bet you can imagine what happened next…
⫺ You two tend to argue like a marry couple which is funny because you two talk about how you want to get married often but at this point you two are married in your own way.
⫺ Most of the arguments tend to be over the dumbest things such as what you want to eat and what the difference between bass and bass or to, two and too.
⫺ You two honestly don’t have true arguments.
⫺ One reason is because you two never want to say something to genuinely hurt each other’s feelings. Push come to shove though you two will talk to each other and serious topics.
⫺ The times Sanemi calls you names is just something he does and has been doing even before the two of you started dating.
⫺ When dinner time comes around, he’s ready to help.
⫺ He may or may not look like it but, he loves cooking.
⫺ He doesn’t have a lot of spare time to do it, so when he gets the chance, he’ll take it.
⫺ He’ll do the cutting and you’ll cover time management, and flavor control.
⫺ The two of you alternate cooking patterns bases on how much energy you have left over after the day.
⫺ When either of you go on missions you too still send letters so you two still feel like you guys are basically there together.
⫺ Every day even after you two started dating you two still go to the bamboo to have tea and ohagi.
⫺ Even though you guys live together, the bamboo forest is still the initial place where the two of you fell in love, so it still holds a lot of great memories for the two of you
⫺ You and Sanemi promised each other that when the day came for you two to have kids, whether you guys where still living on Demon Slayer Corps land or not, you would bring your kids here to have picnics once in a while

On the surface you two seem to be lost with your lives and confused with what you should be doing with them, but in the actually spin of things, the only thing your lost in is the great news you have for Sanemi that you’re pregnant…spoiler alert he’s excided to be a father.
