though the space remained unknown to him, there was little of the thrill of exploration in his sweep across the system. though it lay on the fringes, it still remained within the limits of the navigational charts drawn up by the ascendency. merely that fact would be enough to drown that sensation in his being, but with the addition that this system equally so formed the edge of the portion of the galaxy ruled by this struggling republic, he found nothing beyond the diversion of new sights, however small, within him.
normally, this task, of comparing charts and intel, would fall to a lesser officer but thrawn valued the chance for something a little varied from his typical routine. in between, too, was the opportunity for contemplation, something he oft had little time for. an alarm sounded from the proximity alarms, drawing his attention in a flash…
but there remained no time to flee before a ship he hardly recognized snapped back into realspace only a few kilometers before him.
