Atlas Sparkes. they/he. was a Gertrude era archival assistant, close with Michael (because he's the best). the other assistants at that time used to call them Sparky because of his surname. this was the fluff era of their story, the s1 if i may. then trauma related to the lonely and the vast and a couple others but mostly those two happens, and he's being constantly hunted, half the fears and/or their avatars are after them.
and they remain at the institute. when jon takes over, theyre still there. they wont leave. he cant leave. being in the archives gives him protection that nowhere else can. and theyve seen more than one person they hold dear become an avatar, become a monster, and he refuses to let it happen to him. he is not really a human anymore. but they are not an avatar. he will not become an avatar. they refuse to die.
which is why he doesnt kill himself, they stay in the archives into when jon becomes the archivist, now instead of the witty, funny, charismatic and incredibly kind person they once were, he is now a silent recluse who works away and rarely speaks.
the others whisper about him a little, more out of curiosity than cruelty, and during #paranoidjonera jon might have gone a little nuts over his belief Atlas must know everythign but doesnt speak.
there is still a little of his kindness left, sort of more in an aura than actually displayed, their presence is considered quite comforting when any of the others are working late. weird, but nice.

ok got reminded of this guys existence just now, here's an update!
they are pretty much as close as you can get to being an avatar without dying. not really human anymore. the two fears that are closest to them are the lonely and the vast. he spent a long time trapped in the lonely and lost his red scarf there. sometimes those who go to the lonely will still see a torn red piece of fabric flapping in a tree. i think the vast hit him more though. they are strong though. he has escaped the vast not once but twice, and the lonely once.
