Voice cracked numerous times bc it was hot as hell and I have not had to project my voice in the heat in a LONG time, but I felt #punkrock as hell in this moment, so I'm trying not to care. Here's a snippet of the #S2S40 mentor band playing #CheckYesJuliet by @wethekings, with me on lead #vocals. There's a longer snippet on my twitter and a link to the whole video on my fb. Did you know? This is the song I chose to sing the first time I was evaluated for Stairway as a student in 2012. It was also @jeffrywynne and @emerlot's wedding song, which I did not know until this year, when Jeffry asked me to give this year's kids an example of acapella vocals during the vocal evaluations, and that was the song I defaulted to. He gave me a ride home that day and told me the story of how the two of them picked that song. When he later told us mentors about this mentor cover band idea, I had so much on my plate, due to both the program and personal life things, I told him I couldn't do it. But then he told me he wanted me to sing this song, and I couldn't refuse. I'm really glad he convinced me, bc I had so much fun. You can't quite see it, but I included the second verse/chorus in this clip bc there was a cute moment where he and I made eye contact and he smiled at me. Also, I feel like this song has queer vibes with me on vocals, and I love that. Thanks to Jaron's dad for getting this video!
