I've had a lot of requests for this, & finally had some time today to sit down & make a fast tutorial with pics! :)
First grab yourself an image, ignore my fast shot of Bo from my game -I was too lazy to grab good pic :P
Make yourself a circle, I used the tool up top & colored it whatever was in my palette at the time -lol, & I have it saved as a psd so I can grab it quickly each time! I have the image larger than the circle so I have space to work with if I want parts of my sim to poke out.
I c/p it over my image & set it to multiply -this way I can see what I'm doing & where it's being placed.
Move it around to where you like, here I'm letting her head poke out a bit as you can see.
Next, make two selections with the magic wand tool, one of the circle (make sure you are on the correct layer) & one of the sim. I paste them both into the circle's original psd since it's the correct size to work with -& erase any sim parts I do not want outside the circle.

you see that on the left I erased part of the circle too, so just her hair & shoulder are there.
Next, just color the background to the one matching Tumblr, & I usually resize mine to 300x300. & you're done!
