Week one—New beginning, discovering each other for real
What if Kurt opts to spend his first evening back in Lima after moving to NYC visiting an old friend at the Lima Lakeside Living Center?
“Hey, Kurt!” Cassius called out from two bays over.
“Yeah?” he responded from under the hood of the Mazda he was working on.
“You find that radiator leak yet?”
“Just now. It’s in a place that can’t be repaired. I’ll need to get a new hose to put on it. Why?”
“Oh, because there’s one more oil change that needs done for someone sitting in the lobby waiting. He’s already been here for 30 minutes.”
“Do you want me to do it and leave this for later?”
“Yeah. I thought you coming in today would help me catch up, but Danny had to leave to pick Shaina up early from daycare because she’s sick, and Mandy’s already home sick. And I already called the lady who dropped this Accord off this morning and told her that she could pick it up tomorrow after 10:00. I didn’t give the guy who brought that Mazda in a pickup time because I had no idea what was wrong with it.”
“Got it. I’ll just leave this, then. I’ll just put a piece of electrical tape on the damaged hose in case I’m not the one to finish it up. Has the person’s car been brought in yet?”
“I’ll grab it while you go grab what you need. It’s a 2010 Corolla.”
“Got it.”
A few minutes later, Kurt pulled the hood release to get started, but before he got out of the car, he noticed a Dalton blazer lying on top of a few notebooks and a U.S. Government textbook in the passenger seat. Curiosity got the best of him. He opened the notebook and found the name Sebastian Smythe written in neat letters on the back of the cover. He closed it immediately and got out of the car.
