Guys, I just realised this.
When Anna tore her grace from herself, she forgot everything about who she was. So, the same might happen to Castiel.
And if you say things like "But he's still there in the 2014 apocalypse"... he says that "The Angels left".
What if he forgot who he was after he fell, and Dean found him and helped re-build his memories; but instead of tell Castiel the truth of what happened, he lied to make him feel better- to give him false hope.
Because the angels didn't leave.
Yeah, I'm just really glad I'm not part of the supernatural fandom right now
