It was a cold day. Not many people strolling on the park. Yet, once school was over, Sunset set out to walk here. She certainly did not lack friends, but it wasn’t uncommon for them to be preoccupied with their own hobbies and fancies after school. And when it all seemed to happen in the same day, Sunset was left to her own devices.
She strolled in a circle and eventually sat down. This park, though small, boasted a little playground for children and tables with chess boards painted on them, as well as pieces available to the public. Sunset sat in one such table, and took a black rook, if only to fiddle it with her fingers.
“... Come to think of it, I never figured out this game in full, did I...?“
She had certainly learned the rules, but nobody was there to tell her the game was supposed to be just played and not ‘solved’. In Sunset’s mind, it’d at least be enough of a brain teaser to occupy the time she had until nightfall.
So she took the pieces out, laid them out and started to fiddle around with them.
She was very partial to the knight pieces. She called them “ponies” out of habitual perception. People tended to give condescending smiles when they heard that.
She’d get focused eventually, but she’s not beyond interrupting may anyone come over.
