Went to a screening of Otelo Burning last night. I suggest you go watch it when it premieres on May 11.
It revolves around 3 black surfers from Lamontville in KZN between 1989 and 1990. It’s quite layered, with many sub-narratives. But the central topic is freedom, for the individual and within a community, as well as how ones struggle for freedom can compromise personal identity and dignity.
