Stuck on the Childhood Friends AU, so have the one.

Background Knowledge for this AU

After the days of Recreance, the Vorin Church came up with the idea to replace the Radiants. They developed a way to bond a Lighteyes and a Darkeyes, in a way that was suppose to be similar to a Nahel bond. It wasn’t all that similar, but over time they got something that kinda resembled it. The darkeyes would be referred to as the Lighteyes champion, and could fill several different roles. The most common is a mix between personal honor/body guard and family member. They would live with them, protect them, advise them. 

In the present, having a Champion is a way for Lighteyes to show off, like ‘look, I’m so great this person swore their soul to me.’ It’s not as big a deal as Shardplate, but its up there.  

Okay. Actual AU Time!

Amrama, needing an Ego boost due to his lack of Shardplate, considers bonding a Champion. He dismisses the idea at first, because it seems like a hassle. However as he’s walking though his army he hears rumors about a man named Stormblessed. He decides to check it out and is shocked to see such a young man. He’s a little impressed that someone so young could have such a reputation and could live up to it. After a few run ins (planned on Amaram’s part) the Brightlord ask Kaladin if he would like to be his Champion. Kaladin accepts and they start the process. Sadly near the end Amaram betrays Kaladin is ‘killed by an enemy Shardbarer’. Amaram kills the man and takes his Shardplate/Blade but is still very distraught and only brings up his almost champion when he must gain sympathy as the memory of the boy is still so painful.

When Amaram arrives on the shattered plains, he is horrified shocked to find Kaladin alive, and that he was sold into slavery. And he thinks Amaram is responsible. Amaram’s old friend, and Kaladin current employer Dalinar is sure that Amaram’s enemies must of taken the boy to sell and make it look like Amaram had ordered it. He’s determined to fix this mess; although he would like to keep Kaladin under him of just a little longer, while he recovers and such.

Childhood Friends part 2 (Which is offically going to be called the Reunited AU)

Let’s talk about Bridge Four in this AU because they weren't mentioned in the last two.

- Dalinar still buys the Bridgemen to save them, and because he’s impressed with them but thee set up is different.  

- What happened was Bridge 4 was very worried when Adolin drags Kaladin off after they recognize each other, as all they saw was the prince tackle Kaladin and then drag him off. A day or so later Adolin and Kaladin head back to Bridge Four, because Kaladin refused to abandon them, and they get jumped by a bunch of Sadeas’ men.

- Sadeas’s soldiers don't really process that it was Adolin who was with Kaladin, they just knew that it was Stormblessed who their prince hated and who was a slave who just walked out of camp. Bridge Four saw that their missing Captain had returned and was getting jumped by Soldiers used their Fancy Spear Skills to save Kaladin. 

- All of the bridge is very interested to find out Kaladin’s actual past as if differed from all their guessing but also seems so similar to the made-up ones 

- This was mentioned in the snippet, but Shallan does not take Kaladin boots, she does take Lopen's. The reason for this is I wanted the pillow fight scene to happen. 

- Moash’s role in this is... interesting.

- To summarize it Moash because he knows he can’t expect Kaladin to help with getting rid of Elhkoar, but he’s not as angry about it. Mainly because it’s not that Kaladin is choosing the Lighteyes over him, it that Kaladin was quite literally kidnaped by them. And Moash knows that Kaladin’s parents and two younger brothers could end up like his Grandparents if something went wrong so he understands that Kaladin has a lot to lose.

- He also becomes aware of Roshorn's rule to play in his captain's life, and he starts to fixate on that too, because it helps him feel closer to Kaladin. But that’s for a different time

Childhood friends! AU

*sorry for the generic name it’s a WIP*

-  Lirin is in Tomat and ends up getting hired to be a doctor for Evi. She is a  fan of his pacifist nature, and Hesina, his wife from Karbranth is kinder to her than the other lighteyed ladies

- Adolin is born in 1150. Kaladin in 1153. Renarin in 1154. and Tien in 1155. Lirin really does not like Blackthorn, and is torn between the help he’s doing there for others and Evi, and the work he could be doing back home in Hearthstone. They decide to leave a bit later.

- End up leaving when Tien is five, as Kaldin is seven and Lirin fears will be pushed into swod training (adolin’s started at six) After this point, it is even lonelier for Renarin and Evi, and she has the convo with Dalinar about the others woman making her feel stupid, something that never happened with Hesina.

- Wow looks like Hearthstone still kinda sucks for Kaladin’s family. Ends up following the normal plot line, Roshan, Spearman, Slave, ect.

-Also its a Tien Lives! AU because i said so. So, Tien is taken in by Amaran, told Kaladin is dead, and moves up in the army. The Kholins hear about him and recognize him once he reaches the shattered plains, and Dalinar, who has left the Blackthorn behind and only knows they were tied to his wife but were a dependable family, encourages Tien to write them to move up with him. Amaran allows this because ties to the Kholins would be *very good* for him.

-Things change when Adolin defends the prostitute, then reaches for a sphere to throw at a nearby bridgeboy to take a message. Kal is torn between thinking Adolin grew up and became like all the other lighteyes, and hoping that he’s still his best friend. AND THEN Adolin actually looks at him, and says, “Kal, Kaladin? You’re alive?” Kaladin nodes and is tackled with a hug. “Stormfather, how are you alive? Does Tien know-” which then stars a “Tien’s alive?!?” and.... yeah :3.

A different first impression

A little snippet of Shallan meeting the Kholin’s in the Childhood Friend AU. 

Dalinar swept the tent door out of the way, introduction on the tip of his tongue, before freezing. Adolin was flat on the ground, struggling to remove a pillow from his face with only a small part of his strength. He was still afraid of accidentally hurting his friend, a fear Kaladin didn’t share exhibited the way he was holding down the pillow on the prince.

The tent’s single guard, the one-armed Herdazian from Kaladin’s old bridge crew was cheering his captain on. Renarin and Tien were staring at Dalinar. They, at least, had noticed him come in. Renarin gave a fake cough, and Kaladin glanced up. He then lept to his feet, dragging Adolin up with him.

“Sir! We didn’t hear you come in!” Kaladin

“I noticed,” Dalinar said dryly. “Any particular reason you were smothering my son with a pillow?”

“He kept saying I was delicate and that I’m not sparing partner material.” Kaladin picked up the fallen cushion and hugged it to his chest. “But I’m not delicate, and a great sparring partner, so I gave him a demonstration.”

“Clearly I was wrong” Adolin cut in, “but I’m sure that’s not why you stopped by.”

“Ah, yes. Boys, meet Brightness Shallan Davar.”  

The redhead peered around Dalinar, eyes wide. “Hello?” She asked uncertainly. 

Adolin ran a hand through his hair and stepped up to her, but before he could speak the Herdazin let out a hiss, “Shoe thief!” 

Kaladin groaned, before turning to Shallan. “Did you happen to demand a pair of boots from him? And if you did, please apologize. He’s been complaining about it forever.” 

Shallan’s cheeks turned red, and she opened her mouth, and Dalinar had a feeling things were about to go very wrong. Acting quickly he reached to grab the three men wearing the insignia of bridge four, and Tien. “Let’s give the happy couple a few minutes to know each other! We can take care of other business afterward!” 

“Ummm, chaperone?” Tien asked as he was pulled out. Dalinar pushed him back in. “What! Not me!”

“sorry, least likely to make trouble!” Dalinar called as he ushered Lopen, Renarin and Kaladin away from the tent. The trio stood silently for a minute before Tein grabbed the forgotten cushion, and muttered something about pretending he wasn’t there.

Adolin took a breath and swept into a shallow bowl, “Hello madam, I am prince Adolin Kholin.”
